James Gunn has very quickly shot down a recent Man of Tomorrow casting update.
The next DC Universe movie, currently titled ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ is set to hit US theaters in 2027. James Gunn wrote and directed the film, which continues the story from the 2025 movie ‘Superman.’ David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will return as Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively.
What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?
Deadline reported this morning that DC is looking at Marisa Abela, Adria Arjona, and Ella Purnell to play Maxima. The actresses reportedly started auditioning for the part last week.
I was surprised to see Gunn address the Deadline article so quickly – less than an hour after it came out, he was already on Threads saying it wasn’t accurate. It was a really fast response!
Gunn criticized a recent report by Deadline, calling it inaccurate and poorly done. He expressed disappointment, stating that he usually finds Deadline to be reliable. He added that if they had checked the information with him, he would have immediately pointed out the errors. Gunn clarified his relationship with Adria, noting they’ve been friends since she appeared in ‘Belko Experiment,’ and that while he admires Marisa and Ella, he hasn’t met them personally. He ended by calling the situation ‘crazy’.
In the comments, James Gunn was asked if this meant he was confirming that Maxima is in the movie.
“I am absolutely not confirming that (and didn’t),” Gunn said.
Details about the story of the upcoming Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow, are still being kept secret. However, we know Superman and his enemy Lex Luthor will be forced to team up to face a powerful new threat – likely Brainiac, who will be portrayed by Lars Eidinger.
Look out for “Man of Tomorrow” when it comes out on July 9, 2027. You can currently watch Superman on HBO Max.
