’90s Sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond Makes a Comeback on Streaming

The 1990s were full of hit TV shows, and Friends is arguably the most well-known. But many viewers actually think other sitcoms from that time hold up better today, with Everybody Loves Raymond being a prime example. Interestingly, even though it ended in 2005, Everybody Loves Raymond is now gaining popularity on streaming platforms.

According to FlixPatrol, Everybody Loves Raymond is currently the 5th most popular TV show on Paramount+ in the U.S. It’s moved up two spots since yesterday and has been a top 10 show on the streaming service all week. The show is also performing well in Canada, currently ranking at No. 7 on Paramount+.

Everybody Loves Raymond Remains a Relatable Sitcom

As a big TV fan, I remember when Everybody Loves Raymond first aired on CBS back in September 1996. Patricia Heaton was fantastic as Ray’s wife, Debra Barone. The show really revolved around Ray’s whole family, too – his brother Robert, his mother Marie, and his dad Frank, who were brilliantly played by Brad Garrett, Doris Roberts, and Peter Boyle. It was a truly memorable cast!

Both Everybody Loves Raymond and Friends were popular sitcoms, but Raymond premiered two years after Friends first aired. While Friends became a massive cultural hit, some viewers feel its quality dipped in later seasons. Everybody Loves Raymond, on the other hand, maintained a consistent level of humor throughout its run.

Although some people might not enjoy the very realistic humor in Everybody Loves Raymond, the show’s popularity came from how relatable it was. Viewers agree that the characters, despite their flaws, felt authentic and accurately portrayed the complexities of family life and the connections that hold them together.

The series was a long-running hit, spanning 24 seasons and 552 episodes. It also gained popularity internationally, inspiring remakes in several countries, including the Russian adaptation, The Voronins (Воронины). Interestingly, the show’s creator, Philip Rosenthal, traveled to Russia and filmed a documentary called Exporting Raymond, detailing the making of the Russian version.

Everybody Loves Raymond Was Popular with Viewers and Critics

Everybody Loves Raymond aired from 1996 to the early 2000s and received 15 Emmy Awards, including top acting awards for stars Patricia Heaton and Ray Romano. In 2003, the show was even named Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmys, beating out popular shows like Friends and Sex and the City.

Though it doesn’t always get the same attention as other classic sitcoms, Everybody Loves Raymond was hugely popular and had a real impact on television. The fact that people still enjoy watching it on streaming services more than 20 years later shows how relatable and funny it remains – a true testament to its enduring appeal.

Everybody Loves Raymond is available to stream on Paramount+ in the United States.
