Marvel Fans Already Think the MCU’s New Captain America Tease Will Continue a Doctor Doom Trend

We first saw him trying to abduct young Franklin Richards in a scene after the credits of Fantastic Four: First Steps. Some fans believe Steve Rogers might have accidentally caused the multiverse to fall apart, making his son a target for Doom. The trailer for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 revealed another superhero child, leading many to wonder if Doom is continuing his pattern of kidnapping powerful kids.

When the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again showed Jessica Jones has a daughter, a Reddit user playfully suggested the child might be taken by Doctor Doom, sparking a discussion about the character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is relevant because in the comics, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have a daughter named Danielle, who gains superpowers and eventually becomes Captain America.

Will Jessica Jones’ Daughter Appear in Avengers: Doomsday?

While the joke about another character being pulled into a story with Doctor Doom is funny, it’s probably not going to happen in Avengers: Doomsday. Krysten Ritter, who plays a character from the Netflix Marvel shows, isn’t currently listed in the movie’s cast, and it’s likely she’ll remain part of the smaller, streaming-focused side of the Marvel Universe. Doomsday already has a lot of characters, and adding heroes from shows like Defenders could confuse viewers who aren’t familiar with those stories. Marvel is trying to make its movies easier to follow, especially after some recent films like The Marvels didn’t perform as well as hoped, meaning they want to avoid requiring fans to watch a lot of extra content beforehand.

Whether Jessica Jones’ child is actually Danielle Cage remains to be seen. While the comics suggest that’s the most likely scenario, Marvel Studios is always free to deviate from the source material. However, Jessica and Luke Cage were a couple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and recent photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again show Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) reuniting with the Defenders. It’s logical to think they got back together between appearances. We should learn more once Jessica appears in Season 2 of Born Again.

If Danielle Cage joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will be fascinating to see what happens with her character. Many believe this could be the start of a storyline that eventually leads to her becoming the next Captain America. Marvel rarely introduces significant characters without a long-term plan, and Danielle is a notable addition. However, she’s currently too young to become a superhero right away. It will likely be several years before she’s ready to take on the mantle, and it’s not certain she’ll even get the chance. Following the Avengers: Secret Wars movie, Marvel plans to simplify the timeline and has even discussed the possibility of recasting established characters like Steve Rogers.

The future of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could look very different after Secret Wars. While a new version of Steve Rogers might lead future films, that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t see Danielle Cage as Captain America eventually – it would still be a welcome surprise. Introducing Danielle would bring a new and exciting direction to the franchise, and it would be a fitting tribute to the popular Defenders series. It could even open the door for Danielle to find other heroes with famous parents and form a brand new team of young Avengers.
