State of Play Potentially Happening on April 16, Possibly “Third-Party Focused” – Rumor

NateTheHate, a well-known source of gaming news, recently caused a stir with tweets suggesting a new PlayStation State of Play event could happen before June. While he hadn’t officially confirmed the information, he shared a possible date – April 16th – which is just around the corner.

It seemed likely Insomniac Games would share new details about Marvel’s Wolverine this spring, as they’d previously indicated. However, a reliable insider now suggests the upcoming announcements will likely center around games from other developers, though they aren’t completely sure. This source has been accurate in the past, particularly regarding game showcases, but it’s best to be cautious about this particular information.

That announcement naturally leads to further questions. The February State of Play presentation was very popular and included a lot of new game reveals and announcements from both first and third-party developers. This raises the question of what could be shown in a presentation specifically focused on third-party games. We might see release dates for games like Kena: Scars of Kosmora and Silent Hill: Townfall. Only time will tell what will be revealed.

We might see a dedicated presentation for Marvel’s Wolverine later this month, or possibly in May. This has happened before with other PlayStation games – Horizon Forbidden West got a showcase in May 2021, and Borderlands 4 in April 2025. However, if this presentation does happen, don’t anticipate it being revealed at next week’s State of Play.
