Now that Playground Games has revealed the complete map for Forza Horizon 6, set in Japan, and released the Prologue with its impressive cars and environments, there’s still much to discover about the game. Recent previews highlight Aftermarket Cars as a particularly exciting feature.
You’ll easily recognize these cars by their sporty body modifications – like the Rocket Body kit often seen on the 2003 Honda S2000 – and custom parts. You might see them competing in Festival Races, but most of the time you’ll find them available for purchase. The best part? They’re incredibly affordable.
Torben Ellert, design director, explained to Xbox Wire that the placement of cars is intentional. He hopes players will be encouraged to try out different vehicles by making them readily available in the game world and more affordable to buy. He sees it as a gentle nudge to experience all the amazing cars the game has to offer.
With this being the first Forza Horizon game to use a fog of war – meaning the map reveals itself as you discover new areas – it really motivates players to explore. It also fits nicely with the new Collection Journal, acting as one of many interesting places to visit throughout Japan.
According to Ellert, the new system helps users easily track their past experiences and discoveries. A key principle behind all Discover Japan content is that if you can find it, you can interact with it.
As a fan, what I really appreciate about this game is the freedom it gives you. The developers haven’t tried to make you do anything; they’ve created a world that just invites you to explore and get involved. It’s all about choice, and that’s fantastic!
There’s a ton to do, seriously! You’ve got all the classic stuff like finding awesome Barn Finds, plus Drag Races and Time Attacks. And they’ve added these new Horizon Rush events which are a blast. This map is HUGE and packed with stuff to explore – it’s Playground Games’ most detailed one yet! I’m spending just as much time climbing the ranks at the Horizon Festival as I am just driving around and discovering everything Japan has to offer.
The latest installment in the racing series, Forza Horizon 6, will be available on May 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and will also be included with Game Pass. Players can look forward to a massive collection of over 550 cars and exciting new ways to customize them, like adding window decals.
