After a long wait, Nathan Fillion’s beloved sci-fi show has returned and is quickly becoming a hit on streaming platforms.
Nathan Fillion is a popular actor known for his work on several TV shows. He’s famous for playing Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly (2002) and the movie Serenity (2005), as well as the lead role of a mystery novelist in the long-running ABC series Castle (2009-2016). More recently, he’s starred as Officer John Nolan in The Rookie (since 2018). Currently, his earlier sci-fi series is gaining renewed popularity on streaming platforms thanks to a recent announcement.
Firefly Quietly Returns To Streaming Domination After Major Franchise Update
After a major announcement, Firefly is gaining popularity on streaming platforms once again. The show, a space Western, was canceled by Fox after only one season, but it developed a dedicated fanbase. Last month, fans got exciting news: an animated reboot of Firefly is officially happening, and the original actors are returning!
As of today, April 8th, Firefly has reached the top spot on the Apple TV Store’s list of the 10 most popular TV shows in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. It’s currently more popular than shows like The Chosen, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Dirty Rotten Scandals, Parks and Recreation, Frasier, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Schitt’s Creek, Love Story, and The Count of Monte Cristo.
Firefly, created by Joss Whedon, is about the adventures of a rebellious spaceship crew aboard the Serenity in the year 2517. They journey to the far reaches of the galaxy while trying to stay one step ahead of enemies and the authorities who are pursuing them.
Besides Nathan Fillion, who plays the captain and owner of the ship Serenity, the show Firefly stars Gina Torres as Zoe Washburne, Alan Tudyk as Hoban Washburne, Morena Baccarin as Inara Serra, Sean Maher as Simon Tam, Summer Glau as River Tam, along with Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, and Ron Glass.
Why Firefly Is Shooting Back Up The Streaming Charts
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to see Firefly trending again! The news of an animated reboot, with the entire original cast – Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, and everyone – coming back is just amazing. Apparently, the new series will fill in the gaps between the show’s cancellation and the Serenity movie, which is a perfect way to expand the universe and give us more of what we love.
