As a big fan of the new Superman movie, I’ve been following the casting news closely. Director James Gunn has been setting the record straight all day, shooting down rumors about who’s up for the role of Lois Lane. He said Ella Purnell and Marisa Abela definitely didn’t test for the part, though he didn’t say the same about Adria Arjona. Now, a fresh list of actresses supposedly in the running has popped up, and so far, Gunn hasn’t said anything to deny it – which is interesting!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, four actresses – Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten – are the final contenders to play Maxima in the upcoming “Man of Tomorrow” movie. They all recently screen-tested for the part in Atlanta, where filming is expected to begin.
One of These Four Finalists Is Likely Bringing Maxima To Life on the Big Screen

If James Gunn approves this list – unlike the previous one – we might see one of these four actors cast as Superman in the upcoming sequel. They’re all skilled, and it’s interesting that Xolo Maridueña was on both lists, suggesting he could be a leading contender.

Maxima, a character created by comic book writers Roger Stern and George Perez, first appeared in Action Comics #645 in 1989. She’s the queen of the planet Almerac, and upon arriving on Earth, she believes Superman is the only one worthy of being her partner. She relentlessly pursues him, sometimes as an ally and other times as an enemy, much to Superman’s annoyance.
As a huge DC fan, I always thought it was cool that Maxima was part of the Justice League during the ‘Death of Superman’ saga. She was actually there fighting Doomsday before he even reached Metropolis! With Brainiac now showing up, bringing a more cosmic element to the story, it totally makes sense they’d include her. And honestly, I’m really excited to see how they play out the interactions between Clark and Lois with all this happening – it’s going to be great!
Man of Tomorrow hits theaters on July 9, 2027.
