Clarkson’s Farm producer reveals why the Jeremy Clarkson show could ultimately end

Fans are eagerly awaiting the fifth season of Clarkson’s Farm, and the show’s producer has hinted at what will eventually lead to its ending.

Clarkson has talked before about how long the show will last. He’s said they’ll certainly make six seasons, but he’ll stop when they run out of fresh ideas.

“But I’ve got two quite good ones, so we’ll do six and then we’ll see,” he said at the time.

I’m hearing from those in the know that the future of the show really rests on Jeremy Clarkson. Andy Wilman, who produces the series and has worked with Clarkson for years, has made it clear that it’ll only go on as long as Jeremy wants to keep making it. So, if Clarkson gets bored, the show’s likely over.

So, we’ve done a few big shows now, and honestly, the way Top Gear ended wasn’t something we ever expected or planned for. That’s what I was telling the Extraordinary Life Stories podcast – it just sort of happened, you know?

We decided to end The Grand Tour while it was still going strong and we still had viewers. We wanted to finish with dignity, rather than let it decline.

It’s easy to ruin a good thing by continuing a movie or TV series for too long. Eventually, audiences will lose interest and think it’s become terrible. So, you need to be smart and end it while people still enjoy it.

The farm will need to be handled similarly. I’m not sure when that will be, as it ultimately depends on Jeremy – he’s the driving force behind it, it’s something he created and cares for deeply. With The Grand Tour, we all had an equal stake, but this is different.

He considers the farm his passion project, and if he has more stories to tell after finishing a season, he’ll continue. However, he’s agreed with Amazon that when he feels he’s exhausted all possible ideas, the show will end. That moment hasn’t come yet, but that’s the understanding they have.

Since Clarkson’s Farm doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon, fans have a lot to anticipate, including a special Christmas episode that’s been hinted at.

Okay, so there’s this scene coming up, set around Christmas. It’s not really about farming, more like Christmas festivities happening at a pub. It’s giving me major Vicar of Dibley Christmas special vibes – lots of little stories unfolding within that cozy, festive atmosphere.

Jeremy is planning to create a Santa’s grotto and discussed his ideas with Charlie. I thought their conversation was one of the best scenes they’ve ever filmed.

I clearly remember my colleague Jim and I both feeling that this had the potential to be truly exceptional television. Once it’s released, you’ll understand why we felt so strongly about it.

Kaleb and Jeremy constructed the grotto, and Kaleb’s ideas about how humans were created are remarkably insightful.

You can watch all four seasons of Clarkson’s Farm on Prime Video. New subscribers can try Amazon Prime Video for a free 30-day trial.
