Nintendo Switch Online now has three new games available for Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2! These are classic NES titles, and the update is free for all Nintendo Switch Online members – you don’t need the Expansion Pack to play them. What’s really exciting is that one of these games is widely considered to be one of the greatest video games ever made.
Nintendo recently added GameCube to its Nintendo Switch Online service, and now they’ve expanded the library of classic NES games. The new additions include Mendel Palace, The Tower of Druaga, and, most notably, Pac-Man. Pac-Man is a hugely popular and influential game that many will remember fondly. The Tower of Druaga is being released outside of Japan for the first time, which is a significant event. Interestingly, Mendel Palace was developed by Game Freak – the studio that would later create the Pokémon series – before they became famous for Pokémon.
Pac-Man
Pac-Man, first released by Namco in 1980, is a hugely famous video game that practically defines the golden age of arcades. It was a massive hit with both critics and players, and remains one of the most influential games ever made.
Mendal Palace
Menadal Palace was created by Game Freak and published by Namco. It first came out in Japan in 1989 and was originally only available for the NES. The game later became available in the West in 1990. While it wasn’t a huge hit, Menadal Palace is known for being an early influence on the Pokémon series.
The Tower of Druaga
As a retro gaming fan, I’ve been diving into classic arcade titles, and The Tower of Druaga is the final piece of a really cool Namco trilogy! It came out in 1984 and was a unique blend of RPG and maze gameplay. People say it actually helped inspire The Legend of Zelda, which is amazing! Sadly, it never made its way outside of Japan, so a lot of us in the West missed out on it – it’s a bit of a hidden gem!
