Crimson Desert on PC has a lot of potential for player-created modifications, and hundreds are already available on websites like Nexus Mods.
A new game modification is gaining a lot of attention, with many players feeling it’s something that should have been included in the original game.
This mod lets you fully customize your character’s appearance. You can access the character creation tools through the in-game barber, but it won’t be available until you’ve progressed a bit into the game.
The character creation isn’t fully detailed yet—you can’t completely customize a face from scratch, for example—but you can still create a unique character by combining hundreds of pre-made parts like faces and hairstyles.
You can now create a female version of the main character, Kliff, and customize her appearance. New male character assets are also being added soon. This includes updated armor designs and a new set of female voice lines.
As mentioned before, the release of this modification has prompted player criticism of Pearl Abyss’ choice to focus the game on a single, predetermined main character.
Kliff has a great, rough Scottish accent, but he doesn’t really feel like a fully developed character. He rarely talks, and when he does, it’s usually just a word or a very basic sentence.
The main point is that players should have been able to create their own hero from the beginning. Kliff’s specific identity isn’t really important to most of the game’s story.
Pearl Abyss originally gained recognition for its popular online game, Black Desert, and even now, that game boasts one of the most detailed character customization tools available.
But instead, the Korean studio decided to stick with boring old Kliff for its single-player outing.
It makes you wonder if the success of mods like this will encourage Pearl Abyss to offer more ways to customize characters. They’ve already released a few big updates, so it seems like anything is possible at this point.
