Sofia Mattsson is always game for a new adventure.
Just two weeks after revealing she’d be joining Days of Our Lives, the actress shared her experience taking on the new part, following her departure from General Hospital.
Sofia described her role as both challenging and enjoyable, adding that she particularly loves the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of daytime television. “It’s such a fun challenge as an actress,” she told People magazine in an April 3 interview.
Joining the cast of Days of Our Lives was definitely nerve-wracking,” the 34-year-old admitted. “But my experience on General Hospital made it easier, since I already understood how daytime dramas work.”
Sofia was well-known for her role on a daytime drama. She played Sasha Gilmore, the daughter of Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) and Robert Scorpio (the late Tristan Rogers), from 2018 until she left the show last summer.
Sofia said she was upset to leave the show after seven seasons, but she didn’t realize her character’s story would last so long.
Initially, I expected to appear in only a handful of episodes as a recurring character, so I was surprised to end up staying for so long,” she shared with TV Insider in July. “But time really flew by. From day one, I viewed each day as a chance to improve my skills as an actress, and that feeling continued throughout my time on the show. I truly felt like I was learning something new until the very end!”

Just eight months later, the Swedish actress surprised fans by announcing on Instagram that she’d be appearing on Days of Our Lives in early 2027.
While details about her new position are still scarce, Sofia has spoken very positively about her time in Salem so far.
She told People magazine that her experience has been fantastic. She especially appreciated how welcoming and supportive everyone was, describing the atmosphere as joyful and praising the incredible skills of both the actors and the crew.
Sofia shared that she already felt like the cast and crew of General Hospital were her family, and she’s thrilled to now include everyone from Days of Our Lives as well. She expressed how grateful she is to be working with both teams.

They said they’re so thankful for all of us, for the community we built, and for everything the podcast gave them, and honestly, I’m SO thankful for them. But they said even good things have to end, and… well, I guess that’s that. It’s like losing a friend, and I’m already missing them so much! It’s the end of an era, I swear.

As a longtime follower of TV dramas, I was definitely surprised to learn we’ll never know the full story behind Raymond Reddington! Megan Boone, who played Elizabeth Keen on The Blacklist, decided to move on after eight seasons, and sadly, her character didn’t get the chance to uncover the truth. It seems the letter holding all the answers went unread. Megan actually shared on Instagram back in 2021 that being a part of the show was ‘a dream,’ which is lovely, but it doesn’t quite ease the sting of that unanswered mystery for us fans!
