Production is underway for season 11 of Shetland, with Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell reprising their roles as DI Ruth Calder and DI Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh.
The BBC has announced that Steven Robertson, Samuel Anderson, Steven Miller, Anne Kidd, Angus Miller, Conor McCarry, and Eubha Akilade will all return for the next series of the show. These actors play DC Sandy Wilson, Procurator Fiscal Matt Blake, Rev Alan Calder, pathologist Cora McLean, Donnie (Tosh’s partner), PC Alex Grant, and PC Lorna Burns, respectively. Filming for the new episodes will take place in Scotland and the Shetland Islands over the coming months.
Good news for viewers: Lewis Howden will be back as Sergeant Billy McCabe. His fate was uncertain at the end of season ten after he reported his past mistakes to internal affairs, but he’ll be returning for more episodes.
Each season of the TV show Shetland, which is based on Ann Cleeves’ books, centers around a single investigation for Detective Ruth Calder and her team, and the upcoming season 11 will follow that same format.
The new series revolves around an old murder that has lasting consequences for people living today.

A shocking discovery is made when police pull a car from the water: the skeletal remains of an unidentified man are found in the trunk. The investigation begins with trying to find out who owned the car – a well-known doctor who left the area nine years ago amid troubling rumors.
As Calder and Tosh investigate the GP’s troubled past and the impact his death had on his family and friends, they find themselves facing increasingly difficult and risky situations in their search for answers.
The BBC has also announced some of the guest actors who will appear in the new season.
Christine Bottomley, known for her work in Sherwood, will be acting with Kevin Harvey from This City Is Ours and Stella Gonet, a star of Holby City. The cast also includes comedian Gregor Fisher, famous for Rab C Nesbitt, Gavin Mitchell from Crime, and Charlene Boyd of Summerwater.
