Why Bindi Irwin Has Been So Honest About Her Endometriosis Journey

As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but appreciate Bindi Irwin’s choice in naming her daughter Grace Warrior. From my own journey, I understand the wisdom behind this name; it’s a testament to the resilience needed to conquer life’s toughest battles.

An Australian conservationist, accompanied by her partner Chandler Powell, quietly endured for over a decade before receiving surgical treatment in 2023 for endometriosis – a health issue characterized by uterine lining growth occurring outside the uterus.

On the A Life of Greatness With Sarah Grynberg podcast, Bindi recounted that multiple doctors told her, ‘It’s typical for women, nothing’s actually wrong with you,’ as she grew increasingly ill. However, her health problems significantly impacted various aspects of her life.

Initially, she was apprehensive about disclosing such a private tale to millions of listeners. However, after Bindi, who turns 27 on July 24th, spoke openly about her journey, the daughter of the late Steve Irwin found no reason to feel remorseful.

Bindi expressed to TopMob News in May that her ultimate goal is to assist others who find themselves in similar situations. She emphasized that for women, selecting a support system – whether it be family, chosen family, or friends – is crucial. This is because she noted that dealing with this condition can often feel isolating.

Just her mother Terri Irwin, her brother Robert Irwin, and her spouse were privy to the struggles she had been experiencing prior to disclosing them publicly in March 2023.

It came as a surprise to everyone that Bindi, who always seemed so cheerful, had been hiding such deep pain despite maintaining grace and composure from an early age following the loss of her father.

She said to Sarah Grynberg, “You might find a large rain cloud hovering above you. But that’s no way to live. Instead, opt to appear with positivity not just for yourself but also for everyone around you.

Even though she maintained a positive outlook, terming it as “looking at the glass half full,” this optimism was difficult to sustain when confronted with excruciating bodily discomfort.

In private,” she went on, “I found it challenging to accomplish tasks and follow through with arrangements. This led to several disappointments for those expecting my presence. I suspect others may have perceived me as rather unreliable.

Two years past, when I underwent surgery in the United States, my medical team discovered a total of 37 lesions and an ovarian cyst laden with accumulated menstrual blood within me.

If Bindi hadn’t undergone the surgery, she stated that the following five years in her life would have been crucial and potentially challenging, as she was facing serious internal issues.

Despite feeling validated following years of disrupted life due to fatigue, nausea, and pain, her battle wasn’t yet won, as endometriosis remains incurable.

Or:

Though she finally felt vindicated after dealing with years of debilitating fatigue, sickness, and aches, her struggle wasn’t over, since there is no cure for endometriosis.

In May, shortly following her description of the condition as a “solitary illness,” Bindi actually underwent an emergency surgery to take out her appendix. During this operation, doctors discovered an additional 14 lesions, and they also addressed a hernia that had originated from Grace’s birth in 2021.

Bindi became even more resolute, with the intention of maintaining authenticity, hoping that showing genuine emotions instead of hiding them would eventually become the norm.

She shared her health experience on Instagram, explaining that it was important due to the urgent need for solutions for other young women who are struggling with unidentified aches. She stressed that this condition can be debilitating and leave one feeling extremely lonely.

As a passionate advocate, I can’t help but express my heartfelt conviction: It’s high time we spark a revolution in understanding women’s health issues. You, my fellow warriors, are not invisible; the struggles you endure are undeniably real. Each one of you deserves honest answers and genuine healthcare that truly addresses your unique needs. Together, let’s shatter the silence and rewrite the story for women’s health!

No matter what the situation is, Bindi immerses herself fully into it, mirroring her father’s infectious energy, a man who tragically passed away in 2006 when she was just eight years old.

In 2016, Bindi described her father as someone who was constantly moving and never idle, speaking to KTLA in Los Angeles. She believes that she acquired his trait of impatience, explaining that if he had something to accomplish, he felt compelled to do it immediately.

However, only when her daughter arrived did Bindi start standing up for herself assertively, challenging the notion that female pain is simply an inevitable aspect of womanhood.

She said, “‘I need to act on this,'” she remembered on A Life of Greatness. “It can’t just stay as a thought in my mind.

Without a doubt, she required all the energy she could muster to look after the most vital four-legged (or two-legged, depending on your perspective) being in her world.

She shared that when you have a child, your entire focus shifts towards caring for them. During my illness, it proved challenging to fulfill this role. However, I sought assistance and am incredibly thankful to have recovered post-surgery.

See what other celebrities have had to say about their health challenges:

In 2014, the actress who played the lead role in “12 Years a Slave” was diagnosed with fibroids, which are benign growths that can form within or near the uterus. That very year, she also received an Oscar for her exceptional performance in the movie.

Yet, it wasn’t until the year 2025 that she revealed her condition publicly, sharing on Instagram that she had been enduring it secretly for over a decade.

In my perspective, during our transition into maturity, we’re often led to believe that menstruation equates to discomfort, and this discomfort is just an inherent aspect of femininity. However, it seems we’re enduring this shared experience in isolation rather than together.

In July 2025, one of the stars from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed that she had been admitted to the hospital due to a hernia, which is a tear or weakness in the muscle wall often located in the abdomen or groin region, as a result of wearing tight-fitting trousers.

She posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “‘You don’t tweet much these days,'” she said. “Six months ago, my pants were so tight they gave me a hernia, and I’ve been too nervous to mention it to you.

In April 2025, the former star of “Beverly Hills, 90210” announced that he was recuperating following an operation due to his appendix being on the verge of rupturing.

Last week, I began experiencing some abdominal discomfort, Brian mentioned in an Instagram post. This led me to visit the hospital’s emergency room, where they found a perforated appendix, not yet fully ruptured.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered at age 11, following an accident with a cement truck, continue to impact him up until now.

Devine stated on an episode of the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025 that it’s been quite a struggle for him. He experiences spasms everywhere and was informed by doctors earlier this year that he might not survive.

He observed that pain occasionally appears and disappears, expressing, “There are several minor issues with my body that are not quite right.

Previously on Bachelor Nation, this familiar face disclosed his journey to the hospital, crawling on all fours, as a result of intense back pain that worsened during a recreational vehicle adventure with a companion.

I’m absolutely buzzing from the inside out as we speak! Let me tell you, it’s been quite some time since I’ve felt this way. You see, not too long ago, I was pushing 295 pounds in a squat like it was nothing. But now? Now, I can barely stand on one leg without losing my balance during a squat. It’s as if I’ve suddenly developed some odd form of coordination issue or something.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, a cast member on Real Housewives of Orange County, disclosed that her former spouse, Matt Kirschenheiter, experienced a heart attack in March 2025. Fortunately, he pulled through this challenging situation.

In March 2025, during a New York Knicks basketball game, the prominent figure from “30 Rock” experienced a sudden health issue, causing him to be carried out of Madison Square Garden.

On the next day, the comedian posted an update on social media, explaining that it was food poisoning and he was recovering well.

In February 2025, the actress who starred in “Even Stevens” revealed that she had been accidentally shot in the face during a trip to celebrate her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday by shooting clay pigeons.

In a post on Instagram, she shared that another person at our gathering carelessly discharged their weapon incorrectly and struck me in the face. Instantly, @thebrendanrooney took charge, evaluated my injuries, and swiftly transported me to the hospital. I was wounded in five spots, with one just a fraction of an inch away from directly hitting my right eye.

The former star from “Kim Possible” went on to say, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye, and it’s not safe for surgery right now. My doctors are keeping a close watch on me, but I can see fine for now.

The actress expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being alive. She stated how deeply she cherishes her daughters, husband, family, and friends, saying, “I value them immensely.” She recounted a near-death experience where she caught a glimpse of her life in rapid succession, emphasizing the importance of embracing loved ones whenever possible because life can unexpectedly transform.

In a case where the internet isn’t always compassionate, Amy Schumer is grateful for its role in helping her receive answers during a health concern.

In an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, Amy recounted the situation saying, “The internet was quite critical after I did a lot of press, and I was like, ‘Everybody, calm down,'” referring to her more voluminous appearance at the time. However, medical professionals chimed in with comments suggesting something might be wrong, saying her face appeared unusual. Amy jokingly remarked, “I’m getting trolled by doctors?”

After these doctors speculated she may have Cushing syndrome due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections, the creator of Life & Beth started wondering, “Wait, I have been receiving steroid injections for my scars.”

“I had a breast reduction, a C-section, and other procedures,” Amy explained. “So I was getting these steroid injections. This led to me developing Cushing syndrome, a condition I would not have known about if the internet hadn’t been so relentless.”

Now, Amy is relieved that she is healthy. As she shared in her February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, “Discovering that I had a type of Cushing syndrome that will resolve itself and that I am overall healthy was the best news I could have hoped for.

In a game played in December 2024, an AHL player got injured when another player’s skate accidentally sliced him open. He needed 25 stitches to close the wound. Later, when his father, who is the general manager of the New Jersey Devils (specifically, Tom Fitzgerald), spoke with ESPN after his son had fully healed, he expressed gratitude for their good fortune, stating that he wouldn’t want such an incident to happen to any parent.

Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying incident in March 2022 while having breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber. During their meal, she suddenly started showing symptoms similar to a stroke, such as facial drooping and difficulty speaking. As she struggled to respond, the right side of her face began to droop, and she found it challenging to form sentences.

Justin asked if she was okay, but Hailey couldn’t immediately respond. Realizing something was wrong, they rushed to the hospital for a checkup. The doctors discovered a small blood clot in her brain, which they classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA).

Further investigations revealed that Hailey had a heart condition known as patent foramen ovale (PFO), a hole in her heart. The blood clot escaped through this hole and traveled to her brain, causing the TIA.

Hailey underwent a successful procedure to close the PFO, and she is now feeling well.

In the same year Hailey encountered a health crisis, Justin Bieber also experienced one. Specifically, in June 2022, Justin was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which resulted in temporary facial paralysis and compelled him to postpone the rest of his Justice World Tour. He explained on Instagram that the condition affected nerves in his ear and face, causing partial paralysis. As viewers could observe, his eye didn’t blink, he couldn’t smile on one side of his face, and his nostril didn’t move. The paralysis made eating challenging for him initially, but it eventually subsided. Hailey reported on Good Morning America that Justin is now recovering well and expressed her relief that he’s in good health.

Jamie Foxx initially chose to keep his April 2023 hospitalization a private matter, but later shared his experience. In Atlanta, he recalled, “I had such a severe headache that I asked my friend for an aspirin. Before I could take it, I passed out. I don’t remember being unconscious for about 20 days,” he explained in his 2024 Netflix special titled What Had Happened Was….

Initially examined by a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home, Foxx’s sister, Deidra Dixon, then took him to the hospital where they discovered the cause: a brain bleed that had led to a stroke. Following a 20-day stay in the hospital, Foxx woke up on May 4th in a wheelchair unable to walk. He was subsequently sent to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.

“I can only say that I am grateful for every prayer,” he stated, “because I needed every one of them.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, experienced life-threatening health issues. In an essay titled “A Battle for My Life” published in The New Yorker, she described a severe headache that led to vomiting and worsening pain, which eventually resulted in a hospital visit. There, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke caused by brain bleeding. She underwent immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, a painful process that also left her struggling with aphasia, or speaking nonsense. Fortunately, she recovered and was discharged from the hospital after a month. However, in a 2013 scan, it was discovered that the growth had doubled in size, requiring another surgery. This time, they had to access her brain through her skull. She is now reportedly in good health.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, is thankful for her family following a serious stroke she experienced in January 2024. As soon as she informed them about the incident and shared her condition with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi, her loved ones rushed to help her.

“I texted them that I had just had a stroke and sent them a picture,” Cori told Mr. Marfuggi in December 2024. “Everyone came to my aid.”

However, due to other health issues, Cori needed to stay in the hospital for longer than initially planned.

“I could have gone home after my stroke, but my lupus wasn’t doing well,” she explained. “My kidneys were failing. There was a lot going on.”

Now, Cori is making progress in her recovery.

“I’m feeling good now,” she said. “I just needed to work on my motor skills a bit, but otherwise, I was okay.

In my twenties, I experienced quite a challenging phase regarding my health. To put it mildly, it was a struggle. My hearing started to fade, walking even short distances left me exhausted, needing long hours of rest afterward, and everything I ate seemed to upset my stomach. It was a confusing mix of symptoms, different doctors offering various diagnoses.

Being deeply rooted in holistic practices and herbalism, I decided to embark on a quest for answers. This journey led me to collaborate with both traditional medical professionals and independent healers, seeking solace and healing within myself. It was a long, ten-year odyssey.

During this decade, the discomfort I felt physically had far-reaching effects. I developed a fear of food, which in turn led to mental struggles such as body dysmorphia, identity confusion, and feelings of uncertainty about safety and comfort within my own body.

However, after addressing both my physical and mental health, I am now feeling much better. I can proudly say that I’ve reached a state of good health. It was indeed a journey filled with lessons, but one that ultimately led to resolution and wellness.
