Suranne Jones stars in explosive trailer for new Netflix political thriller Hostage

In the recently unveiled trailer for Netflix’s Hostage, Suranne Jones finds herself confronted by a tough choice that seems almost impossible.

So far, we’ve seen a teaser trailer and initial images for the series, but this latest one ramps up the suspense as it reveals that the character, Prime Minister Abigail Dalton (played by Ashley Thomas), is forced to resign from her powerful position due to her husband Alex being abducted.

The trailer initiates by him saying to her: “In case we need to choose, you’ll pick wisely.” However, given the grim nature of his hostage predicament, an individual being seemingly wounded and mysterious men who undeniably hold a grudge against Abigail, it’s unlikely that she’ll give up without a fight.

It quickly becomes clear that Vivienne Toussaint, the French Prime Minister, finds herself caught up in the situation due to her presence in London during these events unfold.

Does she have something to do with what’s going on or does she similarly have a lot to lose?

You can watch the trailer for yourself below.

In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of Corey Mylchreest as Matheo Lewis from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, who is Toussaint’s stepson. He seems to be involved in a demonstration that occurs due to the appearance of his new stepmother. However, it remains unclear where his allegiance truly lies; we’ll have to wait and see to find out.

The show is penned by Matt Charman, who wrote the script for Bridge of Lies. Therefore, it’s reasonable to expect many unexpected events and plot shifts, as hinted at by the single trailer.

The trailer for this series is intense with explosions at Downing Street, targeted attacks on Abigail, and riots – we can only imagine what further excitement the five-part series might hold.

The spouse of the British Prime Minister gets abducted, and during his visit, the French President is threatened. Confronted with extraordinary dilemmas, they must make decisions that seem unthinkable.

Caught in a relentless competition where their political careers and very existence could be at stake, will they manage to collaborate and expose the conspiracy that jeopardizes them both?

Hostage represents Jones’s initial venture into the realm of Netflix original dramas; furthermore, the actress assumes the role of executive producer in this series.

In a statement, I expressed my excitement about being part of Netflix’s lineup, associated with a project that I can truly take pride in.

I’ve had a strong desire to undertake this task for quite some time now. In our past discussions, we’d touched upon various projects, but what mattered most to me was finding the right opportunity. With Hostage, I found that perfect fit – collaborating with Matt and being part of an intelligent, encouraging team. It was a wonderful experience.
