It’s been verified by Sega that additional characters in their forthcoming kart racer, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which will be added post-launch as DLC, won’t have voiceovers. In an interview with Famitsu (reported by The Gamer), the head of the Sonic franchise, Takashi Iizuka, has affirmed this decision regarding the DLC characters.
Iizuka stated, “There’s no dialogue for collaborative characters,” due to the IP restrictions, only the 24 Sonic characters have voice dialogue. Fans have observed that even additional DLC characters owned by Sega won’t have voice lines, as shown in a trailer by Sega. This includes the pre-order bonus character Werehog, who remained silent throughout the video displayed by Sega.
In the game “Sonic Unleashed”, Sonic transforms into a character called Werehog, who resembles a werewolf. At that time, Jason Griffith, Sonic’s voice actor, provided the voice for Werehog. However, when Roger Craig Smith took over as the voice of Sonic, there was speculation about him also voicing Werehog. Unfortunately, this did not come to pass as he expressed his interest but it didn’t materialize in the end.
People are expressing their dissatisfaction, with one social media user stating, “This is simply not acceptable for a $70 game.
Although these downloadable content (DLC) characters don’t have any dialogue yet, some of the ones announced by Sega are truly remarkable. They’ve included characters from their own franchises like Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, as well as Joker from Persona 5. Additionally, the game will feature characters not originally from Sega, such as vocaloid pop star Hatsune Miku, SpongeBob SquarePants, and his companion Patrick.
At its debut, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to include over 23 racers in its lineup, with more being added post-launch through downloadable content. The game’s race tracks will draw inspiration from previous Sonic games, with Metal Harbor from Sonic Adventure 2 being one of them.
Back in June, Iizuka shared some exciting news about the new game. He mentioned that not only are there fresh locations, but they’ve also reimagined tracks inspired by previous titles to make them feel like familiar places we know and love. Personally, as a gamer who was part of creating Sonic Adventure 2, I can’t wait for the revamped Metal Harbor track. The team has done an outstanding job breathing life into this iconic location in a way that was simply unattainable when the original stage was first created.
Lately, Sega unveiled a trailer highlighting various customization options for the karts in their upcoming title. The game promises over 70,000 distinct combinations of vehicle components for players to utilize. Additionally, the trailer demonstrated several race-related gadgets that players can employ. For insights into the design process behind these gadgets and why certain “stressful” ones were omitted, take a look at the developers’ rationale.
The game titled “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” will be available for play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch starting from September 25th.
This is just unacceptable for a 70 dollar game
