One of Netflix’s best crime shows has another case to solve on the streamer.
As a total TV junkie, I’ve noticed Netflix really nails the crime thriller genre. It just works with their way of releasing whole seasons at once – all those twists and turns, compelling mysteries, and complex characters practically demand a binge-watch! Lately, Jon Bernthal’s His & Hers became a massive hit, joining the ranks of Netflix’s most popular shows ever. And now, one of their consistently highest-rated series is coming back for more, which is fantastic news!
Get ready for more suspense! Season 2 of The Chestnut Man, now titled The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek, arrives on Netflix May 7th. All six episodes will be available at once. Fans have been waiting for five years since the first season premiered on September 29, 2021, and this new season promises a completely new mystery to solve.
As a huge fan of crime dramas, I was totally hooked by The Chestnut Man season one. It really drew me in with the dynamic between the two investigators, Naia Thulin and Mark Hess. They started off clashing, but quickly became a really solid team as they tried to figure out who was leaving those creepy chestnut figures with the victims. Thankfully, that particular mystery was solved by the end of the season, and critics loved it – it’s got a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes! Audiences seem to agree, giving it a fantastic 84% rating as well.
Five years after the first season, The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek will continue the story of detectives Thulin and Hess. The new season is based on the recent sequel novel by Søren Sveistrup, which was released on March 26, 2026. This time, Thulin and Hess team up again to investigate the murder of a 41-year-old woman who was previously stalked. Instead of the chestnut figures from season one, the investigation revolves around a creepy nursery rhyme.
Season 2 of The Chestnut Man will explore the complex dynamic between Thulin and Hess, revealing what happened during the years between seasons. The new season will also connect the current stalking case to an older, unsolved murder from a couple of years prior, offering fresh insights into the teenager’s death, according to Netflix’s official description.
Season one of The Chestnut Man was a huge success, establishing it as one of Netflix’s top crime thrillers. It joins a popular group of shows like His & Hers, Adolescence, Ozark, Monster, and others. Season two aims to build on the popularity of Nordic crime dramas, following the success of the Norwegian hit series Detective Hole.
