SEGA is planning to honor its classic games and characters this year with special projects, all under a new initiative called SEGA Universe.
Although not every project will be a new video game, the publisher plans to revisit and celebrate popular older titles in fresh and exciting ways, going beyond traditional gaming experiences. Their guiding principle is summed up by the slogan: “No Old, Stay Gold.”
This showcases beloved game series celebrating milestone anniversaries, and their availability within SEGA Universe.
- Fantasy Zone
- Outrun
- Streets of Rage
- Rent a Hero
- Guardian Heroes
- NiGHTS
- Dynamite Deka
- Sakura Wars
- SGGG
In 2026, several beloved games will reach major milestones. SGGG will celebrate its 25th anniversary, while Outrun hits 40. Streets of Rage will turn 35, and NiGHTS will be 30. Check out the trailer below for more details!
The project’s website describes a feeling that persists through time. While eras change and things are lost, a certain energy remains – a bright, unwavering spark. It’s not about longing for the past, but recognizing that same intense drive still exists today, undiminished and ready to be reignited, even more powerfully than before.
SEGA has been discussing bringing back older game series for a while now. Last December, under the “Power Surge” campaign, they announced plans for new games in the Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Shinobi universes. So far, only Shinobi: Art of Vengeance has been released as part of that effort.
SEGA Universe is described as a world where classic games and characters continue to exist, spanning different eras and cultures. It’s not just about games anymore – the universe is growing to include movies, music, fashion, and other forms of entertainment. While these things evolve and change, the core experiences stay relevant and are shared with new generations, creating lasting memories.
