Silent Hill: Townfall’s Stealth and Combat on “Equal Footing,” Melee Battles Are “A Real Scrap”

Although the Silent Hill series is known for psychological horror, it’s always mixed action and sneaking around, and the new game, Silent Hill: Townfall, will be no different. According to lead designer Graeme McKellan, the development team aims to make both combat and stealth equally important parts of the experience.

In a recent preview of the game’s mechanics, the developer explained that the game will occasionally guide players toward specific strategies for fighting enemies.

Our game offers a lot of different ways to fight,” explained Linda Stenback, the QA lead. “Players can use close-combat weapons, guns, or even create distractions. While certain situations might favor one method over another, you generally have the freedom to choose the fighting style you prefer.”

If you choose to fight, be warned: it feels incredibly real, according to McKellan. However, he actually enjoys that intense, chaotic feeling.

The upcoming psychological horror game, Silent Hill: Townfall, is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and PC later this year, though a specific date hasn’t been announced. Developed by the small team at Screen Burn, the game is published by Annapurna Interactive, who assure players it will be a complete, high-quality experience – and one of their largest published titles to date. While the official price is still unknown, a recent listing on Best Buy in the US suggested a price of $49.99.
