Everything That’s Happened to Jessica Jones After Season 3

Jessica Jones recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil: Born Again, following her three-season run on the Marvel Netflix series. However, her return showed a noticeable change in her character. She teamed up with Daredevil to fight both Wilson Fisk’s anti-vigilante team and a CIA group that had previously attacked her. The series highlighted Jessica’s psychological evolution, while still showcasing her as the strong and capable hero fans knew from her Netflix days.

Let’s explore what Jessica Jones was up to in the time between her last solo series and her appearance in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.

6) Got Back With Luke Cage

Eagle-eared viewers of Jessica Jones noticed clues about Luke Cage while Jessica was talking to Daredevil. Luke made a brief appearance in the final episode of the show, hinting at a possible future relationship. Comic book fans know Luke and Jessica eventually become a couple and have a daughter, Danielle. While a second season of Jessica Jones never materialized, it appears their relationship did continue after the show ended, and they ultimately had a child together.

The Jessica Jones show concluded in 2019, and a significant amount of time has passed before her return in Daredevil: Born Again, largely due to events like the Blip. It appears Jessica and Luke Cage are no longer a couple; Jessica mentioned Luke now works with the CIA and a man named Mr. Charles (played by Matthew Lillard). Given that the CIA—Mr. Charles’ employer—attacked her home, Luke may return seeking revenge in the next season. This could potentially introduce the mayoral storyline from the “Devil’s Reign” comic books that Luke dealt with in the source material.

5) Became A Mom

As we’ve seen, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have a daughter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s no longer a baby; now around eight or nine years old (played by twin actresses Annabelle and Isabella Ivlev), she was shown playing with a flash grenade during the attack on Jessica’s home. This happened while Jessica was outside fighting the CIA agents who were trying to kill her. The scene was both funny and intense, and it suggested that Danielle is unharmed by the grenade and may have inherited powers from her parents.

Danielle Cage, the daughter of Luke Cage, feels like she stepped right out of a comic book. Her pregnancy was revealed in the comic Alias #28 back in 2004, and she first appeared in The Pulse #13 in 2006. Though Luke Cage won’t be in the current season, he’s already filming for the third season of Daredevil: Born Again. The show is expected to become more intense when he discovers someone attacked the house where his daughter was playing.

4) Settled In the Suburbs

The first time we see Jessica Jones, she’s trying to live a quiet suburban life with her daughter, Danielle. She wanted to leave her days as a vigilante behind and simply raise her daughter in peace. But that peace is quickly shattered when a CIA black ops team attacks, proving she couldn’t escape her past.

Jessica also revealed that the CIA was trying to recruit people with superpowers, but she turned them down. She suggested Luke Cage might have accepted their offer, and that Danny Rand and a friend possibly did too, which could explain why they’re all appearing in Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again. However, it appears Valentina Allegra de Fontaine ordered a hit on Jessica for refusing to cooperate, hoping to silence her, but the attempt failed.

3) Experienced Sporadic Power Loss After Pregnancy

Becoming a mother to Danielle Cage has significantly impacted Jessica Jones’s work as a vigilante. She explains to Daredevil that her superpowers are becoming unreliable, failing at inconvenient times. This is demonstrated during a confrontation with a task force opposing vigilantes – she’s powerfully taking down opponents, but then suddenly loses her abilities, forcing Daredevil to come to her rescue.

The reason for this isn’t clear yet, but it’s likely the show Daredevil: Born Again will reveal more as the story continues. Jessica mentions this has been happening since Danielle was born, mirroring her own struggles with becoming a mother and potentially damaging her self-assurance. It’s also possible that Danielle inheriting her parents’ powers plays a role. Jessica might have lost some of her own abilities when she passed them on to her daughter during childbirth, though this is just a theory. The show will likely address these issues further down the line.

2) Still Doing Investigative Work

Jessica Jones had quit being a vigilante and turned down an offer from Val to join a secret CIA team – similar to the one seen in the Thunderbolts movie. This led Val to send a team to eliminate or capture Jessica. However, Jessica also revealed she’d been looking into Val’s covert operations, which may have been the real reason Val targeted her.

Even though Jessica has stopped acting as a vigilante, she’s continued working as a private investigator, giving her the ability to investigate and uncover information. It’s also possible Luke Cage is secretly working with Val, gathering intelligence to help Jessica.

1) Still in Contact With The Defenders

This development confirms Jessica Jones has been aware of the other Defenders all along. While she didn’t truly connect with Daredevil until the episode “Requiem” in Season 2, photos from the current filming of Season 3 suggest the entire Defenders team – Jessica, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil – will reunite next season.

We don’t yet know the extent of Luke Cage’s involvement with the CIA, or if Iron Fist’s Danny Rand is also involved. But if the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series follows the comic book storyline, Luke could end up running for mayor of New York City. This would give the city a trustworthy leader and potentially allow Luke to overcome the problems hinted at in the final season of Luke Cage.
