The new animated series, Tales From ’85, which is the first spin-off from the hit show Stranger Things, ends by hinting at what’s to come in a second season. While opinions on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things were varied, it didn’t end with the same level of criticism as Game of Thrones, and many viewers enjoyed it. Nevertheless, the end of Stranger Things leaves a significant gap in Netflix’s lineup, and the streaming service hopes to fill it with spin-off shows like Tales From ’85, which takes place between seasons two and three of the original series.
This understandably limits the spinoff’s creative freedom. However, it handles this well, cleverly introducing a new monster that could return later in a more developed form. What’s even more notable is that the story is clearly built to continue, with many unresolved plot points hinting at future seasons. The big question now is: will we actually get a second season of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85?
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Hasn’t Been Officially Renewed By Netflix

Netflix hasn’t decided whether to continue with Stranger Things: Tales From ’85. This is typical for them – they usually wait to see how many people watch a show before making a decision. They’re particularly interested in “completion rates,” which is the number of viewers who finish the show within the first month. Whether Tales From ’85 gets renewed depends on if it meets certain viewership goals, and we should have an update within the next month.
Tales From ’85 is a new and somewhat experimental series for Netflix. While it clearly connects to the original show through its music and style, it’s quite different in many ways. Familiar characters appear less frequently, a new group of actors provide the voices, and the animation format might attract a wider range of viewers. Netflix is closely watching how it performs.
Tales From ’85’s Creative Team Already Have Plans For Season 2

As a huge fan, I’m really hoping we get a Season 2! I was reading an interview with Eric Robles over at IGN, and while he didn’t say he’s actively writing scripts right now, he’s definitely prepared to jump in the moment he gets the green light. He knows exactly where the story is headed. He said if they decide to move forward, he’s ready to go from day one. The good thing about animation, he explained, is it gives him time to really think things through and explore all the possibilities – which, as a viewer, sounds amazing!
Robles explained that a potential second season would continue the story right after the first, maintaining the same timeframe. He said they’re essentially paused between seasons two and three of the main show, but this allows them to build out the world of Tales From ’85. If the show is successful, there could be as many as five seasons, each focusing on a different month between the second and third seasons of Stranger Things.
How Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Sets Up Season 2

The comic book series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, concludes neatly by introducing two key characters for potential future storylines. We meet Nikki Baxter, a new friend to the Hawkins group, and her mother, Anna, a scientist who frequently moves around. The story acknowledges that time will pass before Season 3 of Stranger Things, and establishes that Nikki believes her stay in Hawkins is temporary, anticipating she’ll move on and lose touch with her new friends. This setup avoids any plot inconsistencies if Netflix doesn’t decide to continue the spinoff series.
Perhaps even more interesting is how the show resolves the storyline for the Upside Down. The main monster, nicknamed “the Queen” and “Horde Prime,” is seemingly defeated by Eleven while attempting to return to the Upside Down, but a portion of its body remains behind. Disturbingly, a blue flower rapidly grows from the monster’s remains, suggesting it may not be truly destroyed. According to Robles, this blue flower is a significant detail.
He pointed out that the color itself was significant. If things went as planned, it would be a major breakthrough. But he stressed they were dealing with more than just the Upside Down – it was a combination of its strange rules and a completely new type of matter. This created something unprecedented, and if successful, it could unleash unforeseen consequences that no one was prepared for, as they’d never encountered anything similar before.
When Would Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Release?

If Netflix decides to continue with Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, it will likely be a while before new episodes are available. High-quality animation takes time, and Season 2 probably wouldn’t arrive until at least 2028. If this new series is successful, it means Stranger Things could continue for many more years.
