8 Years Later, Acclaimed Action Series Confirms Its Highly Anticipated Return

The popular action manga Gangsta., created by Kohsuke, is coming back after a long break. It first started appearing in Comic@Bunch magazine in 2011. The author’s health issues led to a pause in new releases after 2018, with volume eight being the most recent one. An English version of that volume came out in 2019. This isn’t the first time the manga has been on hold – it also paused in 2015 due to the creator’s health, but returned in 2017. Fans have been waiting for over seven years, and the publisher recently announced its return on X (formerly Twitter).

The announcement quickly became popular online, with fans thrilled about the show coming back. The publisher confirmed the manga will continue and also announced plans for special events to celebrate the relaunch. As the manga gets ready to return, Kohsuke also sent a message to fans.

Kohsuke recently shared on X that the manga’s release schedule will likely be inconsistent, with pauses happening from time to time. New volumes will probably come out slowly, as they’re still working on a more sustainable art style, which might lead to some changes in the artwork. She asks for readers’ patience and understanding as they work through these challenges.

While the manga is on break, the author has kept fans updated on social media. Earlier this year, she explained that health problems, including vision loss and finger paralysis, are slowing down her work. She’s now confirmed that new chapters will still be released at a slow pace, and she’s also simplifying the artwork to make it easier for her to create.

What Is Gangsta. About?

The story takes place in the crime-ridden city of Ergastulum, where individuals with extraordinary strength and speed – known as Twilights – dominate as powerful groups called Families and Guils. They use their power to control the city’s balance. At the heart of the story are Worick Arcangelo and Nicolas Brown, longtime friends and partners in The Handymen, a neutral organization that takes on any job for money. They essentially work as hired muscle, doing whatever it takes to survive.

What starts as a simple hit – eliminating a competing pimp and his associate – quickly becomes much more complicated and dangerous for the pair. Their mission spirals into a web of events that could drastically change the city’s power structure. The story was adapted into a 12-episode anime in 2015, but a continuation was never produced due to insufficient source material.
