FF14 announces new raids as part of Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover, with Yoko Taro supervising

Okay, so get this – Final Fantasy XIV is actually getting a crossover with Neon Genesis Evangelion! I was totally surprised when I heard, but it sounds amazing. I can’t wait to see how they blend those two worlds together.

This collaboration is happening as Evangelion celebrates its 30th anniversary. A new anime version is also being created by Yoko Taro, the developer known for Drakengard and Nier.

During Fan Fest 2026 in Anaheim, Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida (known as Yoshi-P) revealed that new raids based on the Evangelion series are planned for the game.

Yoshida announced the crossover, nicknamed ‘Ghosts of Desire,’ stating that Square Enix is creating the content, and Yoko Taro, the producer of Evangelion, will oversee the entire project.

Yoshida shared his deep affection for the series, admitting he’s a huge Evangelion fan. He then paused, expressing the weight of expectation with a simple, “Pressure!”

A brief trailer announced the upcoming expansion, but it didn’t offer a glimpse of what’s new in the update.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a hugely popular and important anime series, created by the famous Hideki Anno.

The story follows Shinji Ikari, a teenager chosen to pilot massive robots called Evangelions for a secretive group named Nerv. He fights against powerful, otherworldly creatures called Angels that are endangering the planet.

We don’t have many details about these Evangelion raids yet, but more information will be revealed at the Berlin Fan Fest in July.

Sadly, we don’t have any details about when the Evangelion collaboration will happen.

Fans of Final Fantasy XIV have a lot to be excited about! The game’s next expansion was just revealed at the start of Fan Fest in Anaheim.

Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, the sxith expansion in the series, is set to debut early next year.
