It looks like Housemarque has done it again, as its latest game Saros is a smash hit with critics.
The PlayStation 5 exclusive shooter has received almost universal acclaim, with overwhelmingly positive reviews appearing across the board.
The reviews are strong enough to put it comfortably among the top-rated games of 2026 so far.
The game successfully captures the fast-paced, exciting action of Returnal, but improves upon it with more options and accessibility, all while still providing a challenging experience.
Totally agree with the hype! I just finished writing my review, and I gave the game a 9/10. You can check it out now to see what I thought!
Still unsure? Here are a few reviews from other sources to give you a better idea of what most people think.
VGC – 5/5
Saros beautifully showcases Housemarque’s 30 years of experience. It expands on the intriguing story and fantastic gameplay of Returnal, featuring a standout performance from its lead actor. With some smart changes, Saros will likely introduce even more players to what fans already know: Housemarque is a true gem for PlayStation.
Game Informer – 9.25/10
Honestly, just playing Saros is amazing. The whole loop of moving around, shooting stuff, getting better at the game and with my character, winning battles, and even losing – it’s all incredibly fun. I’m seriously itching to get back to Carcosa and start another run right now, I can barely contain myself!
GameSpot – 9/10
Housemarque’s last game was great, but Saros takes everything they did well and pushes it even further. The game’s structure is flexible and interesting, the combat feels incredibly satisfying, and I was immediately drawn into its captivating and ominous story. I don’t usually love roguelites, but Saros hooked me quickly. It’s a truly exceptional game that doesn’t just improve on the past – it excels in new ways. I’ve already finished it once, and I’m eager to play again.
GamesRadar – 4/5
Saros blends sci-fi action with creepy, cosmic horror, shifting between thoughtful storytelling and fast-paced battles. It’s Housemarque’s impressive effort to make Returnal – their previous, challenging roguelike game – accessible to a wider audience, all while maintaining its core strengths. The game creates a truly immersive atmosphere that lingers long after you finish playing.
IGN – 7/10
Saros attempts a compelling and ambitious story, though it doesn’t always succeed in delivering it effectively. However, Housemarque has once again demonstrated that their signature fast-paced, challenging gameplay fits perfectly with exciting action sequences.
