It’s frustrating when great TV shows get cancelled prematurely, and that happened with a beloved DC series that’s making a comeback. Though it only ran for eight seasons, from 2012 to 2020, many fans consider it one of the best DC shows ever made. After leaving Netflix in December, all 170 episodes will soon be available to stream again, and this time, it will be free.
Good news for fans of Arrow! All eight seasons – that’s 170 episodes – will be available to stream for free on Pluto TV starting May 1st. The show, which left Netflix a few months ago, follows Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, a wealthy man who becomes a masked crime fighter after being marooned on a deserted island. Inspired by the DC Comics character Green Arrow, the series depicts Queen using archery and martial arts to combat corruption and criminals in Star City, guided by a list left by his father.
Arrow Is a 10/10 DC Show
Few DC shows are as impactful as Arrow. It essentially launched the current wave of DC television, filling a need for more realistic and mature superhero stories. Heavily inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight films, Arrow presented a darker, more believable take on superheroes than what was common at the time. The show was known for its intense action, compelling characters, and a consistently gritty tone. Throughout the series, we watched Oliver Queen transform from a self-centered survivor into a dedicated and experienced hero, making it a show that kept viewers engaged for years.
Despite strong critical acclaim – averaging an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes over its eight seasons – and a dedicated following, Arrow concluded after eight seasons. Star Stephen Amell wanted to spend more time with his family and felt it was best to end the show creatively, rather than let it continue indefinitely. By the end of Season 8, the show had surpassed its initial five-year plan and completed Oliver Queen’s story arc. However, Arrow’s legacy continued through the “Arrowverse,” the shared universe it launched, which later included shows like The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Black Lightning.
Other The CW Shows Coming to Pluto TV
Fans waiting to watch Arrow on Pluto TV won’t have to wait much longer! It arrives on the streaming service May 1st, along with two other popular shows from The CW. All 100 episodes of the sci-fi drama The 100, which is based on Kass Morgan’s book series, will be available after being removed from Netflix in December. Plus, all four seasons of the feel-good dramedy Hart of Dixie will also be streaming on Pluto TV.
