Jamie Lynn Spears Reflects on Daughter Maddie’s High School Graduation

Jamie Lynn Spears is teaching a lesson in motherhood 101.

With my daughter, Maddie Watson, about to graduate high school, it’s got me thinking about how quickly she’s grown up. It feels like just yesterday she was little, and now she’s 17 and ready for the next chapter! As her mom, and someone who’s been lucky enough to watch her blossom, it’s a really special time.

Jamie shared on Instagram that she’s officially sent out graduation invitations and received her cap and gown, marking the last regular day of school. She admitted that she’d been avoiding the reality of the situation, but now feels like time is moving incredibly fast.

Jamie Lynn is amazed at how quickly her daughter, Maddie—born in 2008 to her and Casey Aldridge—has grown up.

It’s a bit of a cliché to say ‘the days are long, but the years are short,’ but I’m realizing there’s a reason it’s so often repeated. These sayings become popular because they remain true for everyone, no matter how much time passes.

She went on to say that people often dislike clichés because they represent simple, unavoidable truths. And, if you’re lucky, watching children grow up is one of life’s few certainties.

The Steel Magnolias actress, who is also mom to 7-year-old Ivey with her husband Jamie Watson, shared that watching your children grow up is “one of the most beautiful and rewarding experiences in life.”

Jamie Lynn admits motherhood isn’t always easy, but she’s thankful for every experience along the way.

It’s a mix of happiness and sadness, because you’re incredibly proud of all they’ve achieved, and thrilled to see what they’ll do next, but you also wish they could stay little forever, she said.

As she gets ready to watch Maddie receive her high school diploma, the mom of two left her followers with one last note.

“I know I’m one of luckiest mama’s in the world, so I’ll stop my rambling now, until I completely lose it on graduation day,” Jamie Lynn—who just recently sent off her daughter  to her senior prom—said. “I’ll leave ya with another cliche, go love on your babies, and really REALLY try to be present, no matter what else is going on in your professional or personal life, bc you will NEVER regret spending time with your kids.”

“Also, it’s all about the little things, like today, I had a scoop of coffee ice cream for breakfast,” she added. “I’ll probably have it for lunch too, bc tears & ice cream is an unbeatable duo.”
