DC Releases Releases Trailer for New Batman Movie at Comic-Con

At San Diego Comic-Con, some significant surprises have been unveiled, with DC holding several aces up its sleeve. One of these surprises was a fresh trailer showcasing everyone’s beloved Dark Knight. This exciting reveal took place during the Warner Bros. Home Entertainment panel, but this wasn’t just another rendition of the World’s Greatest Detective. Instead, DC presented its latest project, which will lead Batman down an unforeseen path and blend the Dark Knight with a dash of real-world history. You can watch the new trailer below (via IGN).

Aztec Batman: Empire Collision – this project takes Batman to 16th-century Mesoamerica. The story centers on a young Aztec lad named Yohualli Coatl, who is being groomed to succeed his father as the leader. However, things take a turn when Spanish vessels first appear, under the command of Hernán Cortés, a man thirsty for wealth and recognition. Upon fulfilling his demands, Cortes slays Yohualli’s father, setting Yohualli on a quest for knowledge and revenge.

To take revenge for his father, Yohualli consults his mentor and trains at the temple dedicated to the bat deity, aiming to transform into the most formidable warrior that his adversaries have ever encountered. A crucial aspect of this transformation involves instilling terror in his foes, which eventually leads him to align himself with the Bat God and adopt a look reminiscent of what we’re familiar with, but with an exceptionally distinctive twist.

In the trailer, we get a glimpse of some fresh faces joining Batman’s ranks, both allies and adversaries. Among them are Catwoman, who in this version goes by Jaguar Woman but remains as cunning and evasive as before. Additionally, there’s Forest Ivy, much like our world’s Poison Ivy, a character to watch out for due to her formidable nature.

In this movie, two notable enemies of Batman appear prominently, with particular focus on Two-Face. Cortés serves as the primary adversary, and during a confrontation with Jaguar, he receives lasting scars, transforming him completely into the character of Two-Face. As for the Joker, while his role in the larger narrative isn’t clear yet, he is depicted as a high priest and appears just as erratic as before.

In the game Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires, there’s an impressive lineup of actors in both English and Spanish. For the English version, you’ll see Jay Hernandez (known for Suicide Squad and Hostel) and Raymond Cruz (recognized from Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy). On the other hand, the Spanish version boasts Horacio Garcia Rojas, Omar Chaparro, and Alvaro Morte. The movie is helmed by Juan Meza-Leon and written by Ernie Altbacker.

Sam Register, Tomás Yankelevich, and Michael Uslan serve as executive producers, while José C. García de Letona, Fernando De Fuentes S., Carina Schulze, Aaron D. Berger, Jim Krieg, and Kimberly S. Moreau are the producers for this upcoming project. The movie, running for approximately 89 minutes, is rated R and will be released digitally in the U.S. on September 19th. A physical release including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD versions follows on September 23rd. Both Spanish and English language versions of the film will be included. In a daring twist on the Batman tale, this story unfolds amidst the vivid and combative society of 16th-century Mesoamerica during the Aztec empire. A young Aztec lad named Yohualli Coatl experiences heartbreaking tragedy when his father is slain by Spanish conquerors. To alert King Moctezuma and the high priest, Yoka, to the approaching peril, Yohualli flees to Tenochtitlán where he learns martial arts at the temple of Tzinacan’s bat god, under the tutelage of his guide. He forges tools and weaponry to confront the Spanish invasion and exact revenge for his father’s demise. Throughout his journey, Yohualli encounters significant characters such as the fearsome Jaguar Woman and the beguiling Forest Ivy.
