Ghosts and Rivals stars reveal pressure of pulling off Here We Go’s Lego Eiffel Tower disaster

The actors from the BBC comedy series “Here We Go” reminisced about shooting a daring scene for the opening of season 3, where a massive Lego replica of the Eiffel Tower was dramatically demolished in an unceremonious manner.

The Jessops were heading towards an escape room adventure, but instead, they found themselves unintentionally confined in their residence because of a malfunctioning lock.

In one scene of the episode, Amy (played by Freya Parks) is meticulously completing a 10,000-piece Lego replica of the Eiffel Tower. Viewers who are familiar with the unlucky Jessops might anticipate that this structure won’t last long.

Yet, the sudden collapse of the structure took me by surprise, for even as I was engrossed in another task and merely brushed past it, distracted as Rachel (Katherine Parkinson), the unexpected swiftness of its fall left an impression.

One was completely built, while the other was partially assembled. This was done to mirror the series’ complex timelines and provide the cast with a second opportunity to deliver a stellar performance if their initial attempt fell short.

In a similar fashion, Parkinson expressed his thoughts on the stunt by stating, “Tom was anxious about me doing it without proper discussion first. I typically don’t work that way – we only had two chances to get it right, but I believe it’s extremely challenging to deceive such actions.

As a movie aficionado, I’ve come to appreciate the intricate details behind the scenes of Here We Go, a series that while largely scripted, requires a great deal of spontaneity. Creator Basden shared that they frequently need to improvise on set, determining the exact movements of characters within the Jessop household – timing being crucial, especially when executing a stunt.

Actor Jim Howick, known for his role in Ghosts, commented: “The unique aspect of this series is that everything happens simultaneously. The rhythm and coordination of the camera movements require precise timing of numerous elements.

“It managed to come together well, which is a testament to the crew on quite a busy, frantic day.”

As a devoted fan who can’t get enough of Here We Go’s season 3, I must share a fascinating find that might fuel your building passion – but be prepared for a shock to your wallet! The Lego Eiffel Tower set is priced at an astonishing £554.99 on the official Lego website (at the time of writing). Given its cost, it’s no surprise that the crew only constructed two!
