Could it be that the era of console exclusivity is gradually fading away, except perhaps for Nintendo? However, Sony seems to be on a quest to find a high-ranking executive who will guide their approach towards multiplatform gaming strategies.
A position for a strategic leader at the central office in San Mateo has arisen, focusing on PlayStation’s planning for platforms beyond the PS5.
The statement clearly indicates that chosen applicants will be tasked with enhancing the profitability of titles on various digital platforms outside PlayStation, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile devices.

Here’s the specification in full:
As the Senior Director of Multiplatform & Account Management, you will be reporting directly to the Vice President of Commercial Management. In this role, you will have a pivotal part in designing and implementing the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios’ software titles. This strategy will extend beyond PlayStation hardware to encompass digital platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile. Your responsibilities will include maximizing title profitability, ensuring smooth cross-functional collaboration, and leading a top-tier team dedicated to multiplatform expansion, mid-range commercial planning, and managing platform partnerships.
Later on, it mentions that essential duties involve managing the mid-tier commercial strategy for PS Studios games on platforms other than PlayStation, aiming to boost long-term income and expand the audience base.
This position will also require building and nurturing partnerships with competitors like Xbox and Nintendo. The goal is to foster strong collaboration, maximize promotional impact, and optimize performance.
At this point, Sony has significantly reduced its commitment to full PS5 exclusivity by choosing to adapt several games for PC as well. Additionally, they have introduced LEGO Horizon Adventures on the Nintendo Switch, and have announced plans to bring Helldivers 2 to the Xbox Series X and S.
In a recent interview, the head of PS Studios, Hermen Hulst, stated that it’s important for the company to carefully consider expanding their franchises beyond consoles in order to attract new players, without undermining their current ecosystem too much.
A significant group of PlayStation 5 users are voicing their disappointment, as they believe the console hasn’t fully met their expectations. This discontent is mainly fueled by the limited number of genuine exclusives and the extended periods game developers have required to produce new titles.
In essence, the job description as presented doesn’t automatically imply a shift in tactics. It’s possible that Sony is merely intending to carry on with their existing strategies.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice the trend – hits from PlayStation Studios are increasingly popping up on other platforms at an astonishing pace. It seems like we might be inching ever closer to a future where these exclusive titles gradually become available across various gaming landscapes.
It’s still unclear what this specifically implies for the PlayStation lineup, and more importantly, how quickly the PS6 will be adopted by gamers.
