Episode 6 of The Boys Season 5 marks a significant shift for the show’s final season, dramatically increasing Homelander’s power. However, this episode’s major plot twist is caused by a crucial mistake. Warning: Spoilers ahead! For most of the episode, ‘Though the Heavens Fall,’ the team focuses on destroying the last remaining dose of V1 before Homelander can use it. Their backup plan is to release the supe virus, hoping to make Homelander vulnerable. Sadly, despite their efforts, they fail to achieve either goal.
The latest episode of The Boys sees the team’s attempt to secure the V1 serum from Bombsight derailed by Soldier Boy. Sister Sage, recently joining The Boys as part of her long-term plan, confidently predicted Soldier Boy wouldn’t give the serum to Homelander due to their intense rivalry. However, the episode ends with Soldier Boy shockingly doing just that, creating the team’s biggest fear. Even Sage appears taken aback by this turn of events. While a major miscalculation on her part, it aligns with her established weaknesses. It’s also possible Sage intentionally orchestrated this outcome, as the episode contains several subtle clues hinting at a setup.
Sister Sage’s Misstep in The Boys Season 5, Episode 6 Makes Sense Due to Her Biggest Flaw

Sister Sage is usually a master manipulator, carefully playing people to get what she wants. So, her mistake in Episode 6 seemed out of character at first. She’s known for being the most calculating supe, and she typically considers others’ feelings when making plans, using emotions to control situations. However, the episode reveals she’s too confident in her ability to read people. She dismissively tells Mother’s Milk that people are predictable, which is why she involved Soldier Boy in the V1 exchange. But this arrogance actually makes her mistake understandable. Sage underestimates how complex people really are, and it ends up causing problems for her. This isn’t the first time her assumptions have led her astray – she also misjudged Thomas Godolkin in Season 2 of Gen V.
Sage is a logical thinker who can often figure out what people will do based on their desires and egos, but she doesn’t fully understand those emotions herself. Her assessments are too simple to explain the conflicting feelings Soldier Boy has – his love for Clara clashes with his intense dislike of Homelander. Because she doesn’t even know about Clara, Sage is destined to misread the situation. Adding to the difficulty, Soldier Boy is a far more complex and erratic character than most in The Boys. While Homelander and Butcher have fairly clear motivations, Soldier Boy is messy and unpredictable. This makes him a real challenge for Sage, but she doesn’t recognize that, which is a believable flaw in her judgment.
Homelander Getting the V1 Could Still Be Part of Sister Sage’s Grand Plan

Sage’s recent decision in The Boys Season 5, Episode 6, while seemingly a mistake, actually fits her personality. Many fans online, on platforms like Reddit and Threads, believe it’s all part of a larger strategy. It makes sense that Sage would be wary of Soldier Boy, even considering her confidence. When she uses Ashley to read his mind and discovers he’s starting to connect with his son, it seems odd that she still insists Soldier Boy won’t give up the serum, suggesting she might have ulterior motives.
Adding to the mystery, Sage left a Taco Bell receipt at The Boys’ hideout – a strange detail given the show’s focus. It’s unusual that someone as clever as her wouldn’t cover her tracks. It’s possible she wants Homelander to find out she’s working with The Boys, but her motives are still unknown. While she says she plans to lay low and read, the latest episode hints at a bigger plan. We’ll have to see how it unfolds – theories range from her teaming up with Soldier Boy to conspiring with Stan Edgar, or even replacing the V1 compound. Whatever’s happening, there’s likely more to this mistake than it seems. However, given her tendency to overestimate herself, the simplest explanation – a miscalculation – could also be the right one.
