With May underway, Netflix is adding more anime to its growing collection. While the Spring 2024 anime season kicked off mainly in April, Netflix continues to invest in anime with both new and original series, as well as bringing back older favorites. Unlike Crunchyroll, which releases many episodes weekly, Netflix typically focuses on quality over quantity, with original shows and a select few exciting new releases. Over the past few years, Netflix’s anime library has expanded rapidly, and they consistently add fresh content each month, even if it’s not a huge amount at once.
May brings a lot of new content, and fans are especially excited about the streaming debut of Akane-banashi. The popular anime Assassination Classroom also arrived on May 1st, 2026, with its second season following quickly on June 1st, 2026. This second season completes the series, allowing viewers to watch the entire story back-to-back. You can also find Assassination Classroom on Crunchyroll and Prime Video.
What Is Assassination Classroom About?

This popular anime series is adapted from a manga by Yuusei Matsui, originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2016. The anime premiered just before the manga ended and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its original story, memorable characters, and a mix of humor, action, and thought-provoking themes. The story follows Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Middle School – a group of students who feel like outsiders. Considered the school’s lowest-performing class, they are separated from the rest of the student body and housed in a remote mountain building.
Most of the students are known for causing trouble and their grades are slipping. They spend their time avoiding studying, but everything changes when a strange new homeroom teacher arrives in their third year of middle school. This teacher, who looks like a yellow octopus and barely seems human, is actually a massive danger – he boasts about destroying the moon and plans to do the same to Earth within the next year.
The government has been hiding a secret from everyone and allowed this mysterious individual to teach a class, even though it puts the students at risk. To make matters worse, the students are assigned the dangerous task of assassinating their teacher, Koro Sensei, despite him being the most incredible educator they’ve ever known. But Koro Sensei’s amazing abilities make it nearly impossible for them to even touch him.
