According to a Reuters report, Sony Interactive Entertainment has accused Tencent in a California federal court of copying elements from their Horizon series of video games with the game titled Light of Motiram, which they announced for release in November 2024.
As a dedicated gamer, I’d put it this way: “In the court case, they’re calling my favorite game, ‘Light of Motiram’, a copycat. It shares the same gameplay mechanics, storylines, and visual aesthetics with ‘Horizon’. Plus, there are other striking resemblances that have raised some eyebrows.
In the legal dispute, Sony Interactive Entertainment mentioned they turned down a collaboration proposal from Tencent regarding a new “Horizon” title for the year 2024, prior to Tencent’s announcement of “Light of Motiram”.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve come across some intriguing discussions about a game titled “Light of Motiram.” Apparently, according to court documents, some journalists have compared it unfavorably to “Horizon,” even going as far as labeling it a “zero originality” version of the game. Quite interesting, isn’t it?
As a devoted fan, I’d put it this way: I, along with fellow enthusiasts, am backing Sony Interactive Entertainment as they seek compensation of an undisclosed sum, and a court injunction to prevent Tencent from infringing upon their valuable intellectual property.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent did not provide a prompt response when Reuters sought their comments.
In November 2024, Sony Interactive Entertainment Shanghai announced on their social media platforms that the game “Light of Motiram” would also be available for PlayStation 5. This move suggests that the company was not concerned about the game’s resemblance to the “Horizon” series, despite an ongoing lawsuit. Although the initial posts have been taken down, a copy can still be found on Archive.org.
