There’s paying homage and then there’s just outright copying.
It appears that Sony’s legal department believes that the Chinese company Tencent has gone too far in copying the popular game “Horizon” with their own title, and they are taking them to court for allegedly creating a blatant duplicate.
As reported by Reuters, the company that owns the platform filed a legal action on July 25th, claiming both copyright and trademark violations. Their aim is to stop the release of this allegedly unauthorized game altogether.
As a dedicated admirer, I find myself utterly astonished by Tencent’s apparent imitation of Horizon, an act so brazenly obvious that it leaves me speechless. The public’s response has been nothing short of astonishment, labeling it as ‘crazy’, ‘insane’, and ‘shameless’. This is the crux of the allegations made in the lawsuit.
It’s even more astonishing to learn, as reported by Gamespot, that Tencent proposed licensing the Horizon intellectual property to Sony, an offer which Sony declined immediately.
In this lawsuit, it’s claimed that Tencent is deceiving customers into thinking that Light of Motiram is the upcoming official Horizon sequel, which leads to significant harm. The plaintiff is seeking $150,000 in compensation and also wants access to all materials related to Light of Motiram so they can be eliminated.
