The success of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” has soared since its debut in Japan, with the film’s directors hinting at the impressive new animation yet to come. This summer, fans can expect the return of “Demon Slayer” to Japanese theaters as the first installment of a three-part cinematic series hits the screens. The creators of the TV anime are sparing no effort for this fresh project, ensuring every aspect has been thoughtfully executed during the trilogy’s production.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” is all set to storm into North America this Fall! Just recently at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the masterminds behind the trilogy – our talented directors and voice actors – graced Hall H (courtesy of Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment). Haruo Sotozaki, our director, and Yuichi Terao, our cinematographer, gave us a sneak peek of their work on the trilogy. And here’s what got my heart racing – Terao hinted that at ufotable and “Demon Slayer,” we’re aiming for the most epic and breathtaking animation possible!
Demon Slayer Directors Tease Infinity Castle’s Animation
In my role as a director of photography in anime production, I am responsible for gathering various creative elements from different team members. This includes character animation, backgrounds, special effects – each one arriving at my workstation. From there, I carefully piece together these diverse components into a single frame. Subsequently, we add lighting and any necessary 2D effects, ultimately shaping the final product that fans experience in the trilogy.
In simpler terms, Terao explains, “We’ll work on colors, lighting, and various effects such as rain, snow, or smoke to create a world that matches Demon Slayer. At ufotable and Demon Slayer, we aim for the best, most stunning animation possible.” Director Haruo Sotozaki then discussed their dedication to faithfully adapting Koyoharu Gotoge’s unique art style in this anime series.
Demon Slayer Director on Bringing the Manga to Life
As a dedicated admirer, I personally ensured meticulous care when it came to the line thickness in our manga adaptation for the anime, as I shared during the San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel. Preserving the essence from manga to anime was crucial to me, so we underwent numerous iterations, experimenting with line thickness in the animation itself alongside my cinematographer. The end result, showcased in our water breathing technique, reflects this painstaking process and pays homage to traditional Japanese ukiyo-e style artwork.
The anime movie “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” will officially premiere in the U.S. and Canada on September 12th. At the SDCC 2025 panel, it was revealed that ticket sales for the film would start on August 15th. This movie marks the beginning of a planned trilogy, although release dates for the second and third films have not been set yet.
