As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm about the extraordinary bond that Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence have forged by intertwining their family roots.
When my own boy, Eric Murphy, tied the knot with none other than Martin’s dear daughter, Jasmin Lawrence, back in May, life hardly skipped a beat.
Eddie mentioned to TopMob News during the premiere of ‘The Pickup’ on July 28th that they had been together for a couple of years, which means she was already considered part of his family. He added that they haven’t thrown a party yet; they had planned a big wedding, but instead decided to do something small first.
He’s content with allowing them to make their own decisions, including expanding their family further. As he stated at 64, “I won’t be pressuring them.” He views more grandchildren as a lovely gift that will come naturally when the time is right.
Besides Eddie’s confirmation of their marriage, it was also clear that many others were pleased. In particular, just the day prior to the announcement, Martin expressed his admiration for Eric on Jennifer Hudson’s show by saying he considered him a “wonderful young man.
The actor known for his role in “Bad Boys” expressed a comparable viewpoint to Eddie, discussing his approach to parenthood now that his children have reached maturity, with whom he shares a daughter named Patricia Southall.
He articulated, “I believe we share a common concern, which is ensuring the well-being of our kids. We allow them to explore and decide on their paths, avoiding interference, and letting them discover their own journey in life.
When his daughter and Eric opted for an elopement instead of a grand wedding, he found no reason to oppose. As Eddie humorously pointed out during his guest spot on The Jennifer Hudson Show in May, this change meant that Martin was now freed from the expense of organizing a wedding.
For Eric, aged 36, and Jasmin, who Eddie has from his former partner Paulette McNeely, it was not merely about the financial allure; they were eager to formalize their storybook love.
Jasmin, age 29, expressed her joy in an Instagram post in November, stating that God has graciously bestowed upon us a love that seems like fate. They are thrilled beyond words for the upcoming journey in this new phase of their lives.
Eric also speaks only praise about his current spouse, who he previously stated that his life wouldn’t feel fully realized without her.
In his 2023 birthday tribute to Jasmin, he expressed that our shared moments freeze time. She elevates him as a person in all aspects. He’s grateful for her role as an inspiring figure in his life, and for being the love of his life.

In this ongoing discussion, we delve into the extensive family of the renowned actor Eddie Murphy. He has children with different partners such as: Eric Murphy, born from his relationship with ex Paulette McNeely; Bria Murphy and Myles Murphy, who came from his marriage to Nicole Murphy; Shayne Murphy, Zola Murphy, and Bella Murphy; the latter three were born after their separation; Christian Murphy with ex Tamara Hood; Angel Murphy with ex Mel B; and lastly, Izzy and Max, born to his current wife Paige Butcher. Despite the age difference among his children, spanning nearly 30 years, Eddie claims that his parenting style has remained relatively consistent. He described himself as a “laid-back” dad who is not overly strict but maintains a presence in all of their lives, attending events like school plays. However, he admitted that he is less stringent with his youngest children, allowing them more freedom and noise. This was shared during an interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings in July 2024.
Eric, born in July 1989, is Eddie’s eldest son from a past relationship with Paulette McNeely (not much is known about her or their relationship). While his father has achieved great success in front of the camera, Eric primarily works behind it, doing voiceovers for projects like “Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate,” “Megamind Rules!”, and even some of his father’s films. In a July 2024 Instagram post, Eric shared that he was able to use his likeness to his father’s voice in the new “Beverly Hills Cop” film during ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) sessions.
Eric also found love with some help from his dad. He became engaged to Jasmin Page Lawrence, the daughter of Eddie’s frequent co-star Martin Lawrence, in November 2024. Both fathers approve of their union and are excited about their future together.
When asked who would cover the cost of the wedding, Martin revealed on a December 2024 episode of “Big Boy’s Neighborhood” podcast that Eddie had told him he was responsible for paying for it since Eddie had covered the costs of several previous weddings. Martin said he didn’t mind taking on this responsibility.
After attending the NAACP Image Awards post-event gathering in 1993, Nicole Murphy (born Mitchell) tied the knot with Eddie. Together, the actor from “Coming to America” and the model went on to have children named Bria Murphy, Myles Murphy, Shayne Murphy, Zola Murphy and Bella Murphy. Despite filing for divorce in 2005, marking the end of their 12-year marriage, they have maintained a cordial relationship. In an interview with HYPE+ in July 2024, Nicole expressed her affection for Eddie, stating, “My kids love their father dearly, and I’ll always hold a special place for Eddie in my heart, no matter what. That will never change. We may not be married anymore, but we are friends.” Despite considering changing her surname should she remarry, Nicole continues to use Murphy – at least for the time being. “I had promised I would drop Murphy if I got remarried,” she explained. “But people often ask me why I still go by Murphy. I was married to that man for a long time, and I earned my name. I deserve it. I have five children with that name. There’s no reason to rush changing it.” From 2012 to 2014, Nicole was a cast member on VH1’s “Hollywood Exes,” and she has been romantically linked to other well-known figures besides Eddie, including Michael Strahan. However, their relationship ended in 2014 after seven years together.
Bria, Eddie’s eldest daughter with Nicole, was born in November 1989, approximately four months after Eric. She seems to have inherited her father’s passion for acting, as evidenced by her cameo as a fellow officer in his film “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” in 2024, which marked 30 years since the original. Interestingly, Bria’s husband, Michael Xavier, was also featured in the movie. In an interview with Today in June 2024, Eddie stated, “She’s the one that arrests me… It was surreal.” However, Bria confessed to Entertainment Tonight in the same month that she was initially apprehensive about her role, fearing she might accidentally hurt her father during filming. Despite this, she found the experience enjoyable and felt fortunate to be a part of such a significant project. In fact, Bria had previously appeared in one of her father’s films, “Daddy Day Care,” in 2003. Other acting credits include “The Perfect Match,” “The Game,” and “Conflict of Interest.
After Bria and Myles were born to Nicole, Eddie had another son, Christian, with Tamara Hood in November 1990. Details about Tamara’s life and their relationship have mostly been kept private.
Christian, like his siblings, tends to stay out of the limelight. However, he occasionally shares glimpses into his personal life on Instagram, posting pictures of family gatherings during holidays and red carpet events with their father. In a photo from the premiere of Eddie’s 2016 movie “Mr. Church,” Christian commented, “The best-looking family in #america.
Born in November 1992, Myles is the youngest son of Eddie and Nicole. Despite keeping his personal life relatively private, he has made some public appearances on red carpets, such as those for his father’s films like Mr. Church, The Nutty Professor, and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.
Myles’ wife, Carly Murphy (they married in September 2023), occasionally shares glimpses of their family life on Instagram. Their daughters, Evie (born in July 2019) and Zuri (due in October 2024), often feature in these posts—including heartwarming moments with their grandfather Eddie.
In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2020, just months after the birth of Evie, Eddie shared that she refers to him as “Papa.” Although Evie couldn’t talk at the time, Eddie anticipated that would be her nickname for him.
As an ardent fan of “Claim to Fame”, if you recall, you might have seen Shayne grace our screens during season two in 2023. After her heartfelt journey on ABC’s reality competition series came to an end, a special moment unfolded between her and her father, the esteemed comedian Eddie.
Towards the end of the episode, Eddie, who shares daughter Shayne with Nicole, expressed his deep affection in a touching video message. He said, “Shayne, I adore you so deeply,” and went on to add, “I’m incredibly proud of you, my little girl.”
In response, Shayne reciprocated the love, expressing her admiration for her father. She stated, “He is a living legend in comedy and entertainment, but beyond that, he is the most exceptional dad anyone could ever ask for.”
Apart from her flourishing career on reality TV, Shayne also showcases her culinary and artistic talents through her social media account, Shayne’s Kitchen.
On Christmas Eve 1999, Zola made her first appearance, and according to her mom Nicole, she was “the most wonderful Christmas present I’ve ever received.”
Zola is well-known as a member of her family on the reality TV show Hollywood Exes, alongside her sisters Bria, Shayne, and Bella. Although she’s walked many red carpets with her famous relatives, nowadays, she primarily shares updates about her life, travel experiences, and fashion choices with her followers on Instagram.
Just like her sister Bria, Bella has likewise nurtured a love for acting and made an appearance in her father’s 2021 film, the sequel to the original from 33 years prior titled “Coming 2 America“. It is worth noting that she had to go through the audition process as well. In an interview with Good Morning America in February 2021, she expressed her desire to excel and not be perceived as a nepotistic choice: “I simply wanted to be good… I didn’t want people to watch it and say, ‘Oh, that must be his daughter because she can’t keep up with everyone else.'”
Needless to say, her efforts did not go unnoticed by her father. In an episode of the WTF With Marc Maron podcast a month later, Eddie expressed great pride in his youngest child born in January 2002: “When you see your kid in something at school, it fills you up… So imagine going to work and your baby girl is with you and she’s contributing to what’s going on, and she’s doing a good job too. Every day, I was just filled up.”
Bella’s acting credits continue to expand as well, with roles in “Dollface” and “Fairyland”.
In 2006, Mel B (Melanie Brown) started dating Eddie. They had an immediate and intense attraction during a dinner party at his house, but she left because it was overwhelming. However, Eddie is a kind-hearted person who values family and respect, and they dated for some time in secrecy before their relationship became public knowledge.
During their romance, Mel became pregnant. She was deeply in love with Eddie and had planned their wedding and her pregnancy. Unfortunately, she was dumped by Eddie after leaving him for a few days to think about their relationship towards the end of 2006. Their child, Angel, was born in April 2007.
Initially, Eddie questioned the paternity, but a DNA test confirmed he was the father. He has since become an important figure in Angel’s life. Mel still harbors feelings for Eddie and acknowledged this in 2018 when she said, “Yes, I always will.” However, he is in a committed relationship with Paige Butcher now.
Angel is the sole child that Eddie and Mel B share together. On Angel’s 17th birthday in 2024, the judge from America’s Got Talent wrote on Instagram, “You’ve been a beacon of light in my life since day one… Watching you grow into the incredible person you are fills me with immense pride and love every single day.” Mel has often shared glimpses of her life with her children, including Phoenix from her first marriage, Madison from her second marriage, and now, Angel. Photos show them spending time on the farm, joining Mel for work, and celebrating milestones together. For Angel’s 18th birthday in 2025, Mel wrote, “You are unique, bright, and exceptionally talented! I am so proud of you as you continue to grow and become the person you are, but you will always be my baby. Keep chasing your dreams and being kind to everyone around you, like you always have been, my Angel. I love you forever.” Mel is now engaged to Rory McPhee.
Four years into their public relationship, Eddie and Paige became parents to a daughter named Izzy in May 2016. Later that year on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the former SNL star expressed his affection for children, stating they were the source of his happiness. He shared he loved having nine kids. However, Eddie was open to expanding their family further. “I would have ten,” he said, expressing his readiness if Paige agreed. As it turned out, she did. In November 2018, they welcomed their son Max. Interestingly, their children have already been introduced to dad’s films.
In 2024, Eddie shared with TopMob News that their children had only watched movies like Shrek, Mulan, and bits of Coming to America, while Doctor Doolittle was familiar to them, followed by Daddy Day Care next. However, the couple, who got married in July 2024, refrain from sharing pictures of their kids on Instagram as they don’t have accounts due to privacy concerns.
Eddie had quit Facebook after a year in 2013, followed by Instagram, Twitter, and all other social media platforms. When interviewed by Vanity Fair that same year, she revealed her reasons for doing so: being a partner of a celebrity meant there was already too much of herself online; she felt she was disclosing too much personal information and giving people unnecessary access to her life. She prefers keeping as much private as possible now since people can use anything against you, the more you share, the more you receive in return. And lastly, she mentioned that she found her social media posts rather dull, mainly consisting of her volunteer work.
