With the season three finale now aired, fans are wondering if Euphoria will return for another season.
The future of the popular HBO show, featuring Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Jacob Elordi, was already uncertain because of the long break between its second and third seasons.
Okay, so Sam Levinson – the Sam Levinson, honestly? – told Variety that, yeah, the strikes and getting everyone’s schedules to line up were a pain, especially with how busy the cast is. But he said that wasn’t even the biggest thing! He was really focused on making sure they honored everyone they’d lost. It was so moving to hear him talk about it, you can tell it meant everything to him and the whole show. I’m obsessed with how much he cares!
Production faced devastating losses. In 2023, Angus Cloud tragically died from an accidental overdose during the actors and writers strike. More recently, just before the premiere of season three, Eric Dane passed away after a battle with ALS, adding to the grief of the cast and crew.
Levinson was determined to make the third season incredibly impactful. He explained he wanted to end the series on a high note and leave a lasting impression.
Despite the current ending, Euphoria might not be over for good. Although creator Sam Levinson, age 41, says he doesn’t have plans for a fourth season, he also writes each season as if it were the final one, leaving the door open for future episodes.
And HBO is leaving Euphoria‘s fate open-ended, too.
HBO CEO Casey Bloys told Deadline in January that they need to understand Sam’s goals – both for the show and his future creative endeavors. Bloys said he’s unsure what Sam wants to do next, and they’ll need to discuss it with him.
Likewise, many members of the cast are deferring to Levinson.

Sweeney has expressed openness to returning for a fourth season if there are more stories to explore within the show’s universe. In an October interview with Variety, she specifically mentioned her fondness for her character, Cassie.
Jessica Blair Herman, who played Heather—a friend of Cassie’s—on the third season of the show, said in an April interview with Good Day New York that the decision about the show’s future rests with Sam.
She explained that he has a strong guiding purpose, and he fully commits to following it. She added that being involved in his journey is an incredible opportunity.
Even if Euphoria gets another season, Jacob Elordi won’t be in it. His character, Nate, was killed off near the end of the third season. Elordi described the ending as “bittersweet,” saying the show has been a significant part of both his career and personal life, and he’s proud to have been involved.

As a huge fan, it’s a little bittersweet, but I completely understand why they’re wrapping up Euphoria. It sounds like Zendaya, who’s not just the incredible Rue but also a producer on the show, feels the story has run its course and reached a natural ending. I trust her judgment – she clearly has a deep connection to the show and its characters.
She hinted that season three would likely be the show’s last, telling Drew Barrymore in April that “closure is coming.”
Still, Euphoria will always have a special place in the actress’ heart.
Playing Rue really changed me, honestly. It completely opened my heart and taught me so much about understanding others and the possibility of finding your way back, even when things are really tough. I’m incredibly grateful for everything that role gave me.
