EastEnders airs heartbreaking Denise Fox scenes and tragic accident involving Ian Beale in early BBC iPlayer release

A dramatic week has begun on EastEnders, especially for Denise Fox (played by Diane Parish), with a recent episode proving particularly upsetting.

There was also drama for Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), but thus far, he has absolutely no idea.

Last month, it was revealed that Denise will be diagnosed with leukemia in the show. This storyline will unfold over the rest of this year and into 2027, showing how the illness affects Denise and the people close to her.

The story begins with her receiving a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive type of cancer that needs immediate treatment.

She felt completely shocked and overwhelmed. On the bus ride home, her mind raced with questions. Once inside, she went to her living room and asked her smart speaker for information about what was happening.

Denise was devastated to learn the survival rate was extremely low, and even lower for Black individuals.

Honestly, it was classic EastEnders drama! Yolande Trueman just showed up, practically banging on the door, wanting to know why I wasn’t at Vicki and Ross’s wedding. I was trying to explain I just needed some space, but I definitely wasn’t about to tell her what was really going on. I was keeping things to myself, and she was not letting it go!

But when Denise learned her son, Raymond (Michael Jose Pomares Calixte), was inquiring about her, she broke down and started crying, revealing she was battling cancer.

Yolande quickly brought Denise back to her place at number 27 and offered her a drink, hoping she would start to talk. Remembering when her abusive ex-husband, Lucas Johnson, had knocked out one of her teeth, Denise suddenly understood how fragile life could be.

Seeing the lost tooth on the floor, she realized there was nothing left to do for it. This made her think about her own life and how she often watched people from the bus, wondering what the end of her own life would be like.

Yolande urged her to stand up for herself, reminding her that she had healed from past hurts caused by men and was now capable of believing in a brighter future. Despite this, Denise continued to avoid answering the hospital’s calls.

At the wedding, Kathy Beale had a bit too much to drink. Her son, Ian, thought it was time for her to head home.

She was starting to upset his former wife, Cindy, and realized it wouldn’t take much – just one more drink – for Cindy to completely disrupt their wedding.

Chelsea Fox was flirting with Zack Hudson, unaware of her mother’s distress. Her son, Jordan, arrived and interrupted, and she told him to go back to the party tent and locate their babysitter, Josh Goodwin.

Jordan had no intentions of going back outside, and ran into the street.

Ian pulled Kathy into the car, and she immediately turned up the radio. They were both so caught up in the music that they didn’t notice Jordan fall after the car hit him. Kathy thought she might have felt a bump, but Ian dismissed it, claiming it was just the sound of trash cans and the traffic cone he’d jokingly placed there as a ‘VIP councillor’ marker.

Will Jordan be ok, and will Denise get her urgent treatment?
