New Trailer for 2026’s Jurassic Park Replacement Confirms It’s Nailing the Franchise’s Biggest Wasted Opportunity

As a huge cinema fan, I’m really excited about the big dinosaur movie coming out in 2026. It seems like it’s finally going to do something the Jurassic Park and World films have hinted at for years but never quite achieved. The franchise has definitely had its highs and lows since Spielberg’s original film blew us all away in ’93. Things really dipped with Jurassic World: Dominion, and while 2025’s Rebirth wasn’t a total disaster, it didn’t quite reach the billion-dollar mark like the other World movies. Still, audiences seemed to enjoy it a little more, and that was enough to greenlight another sequel, thankfully!

Despite the success of the Jurassic Park and World films, audiences are eager for dinosaur movies that try something new. While 2025’s Primitive War – which combined dinosaurs with the Vietnam War – didn’t make a lot of money, it actually received better reviews from general audiences on Rotten Tomatoes than most Jurassic movies. Now, 2026 brings The End of Oak Street, which looks promising. Produced by J.J. Abrams and directed by David Robert Mitchell, the film stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor and tells the story of a family in the 1980s whose neighborhood is mysteriously transported back to the prehistoric era, complete with dinosaurs. You can watch the official trailer below.

The End Of Oak Street Looks Like The Dinosaur Movie We’ve Been Waiting For

The trailer for The End of Oak Street is very good. Mystery movies sometimes reveal too much in their trailers, but this one still keeps enough hidden. While that could change, the dinosaurs featured in the film are likely to attract a lot of viewers. Importantly, it’s telling a story about dinosaurs existing in our world, something the Jurassic series hasn’t fully explored in a satisfying way.

Even though the setting has changed, the movie will still show the creatures interacting with normal, everyday human environments – something the film Dominion hinted at but didn’t fully explore. This should lead to creative and exciting scenes, and the movie appears to be handling this aspect of the story well, adding a unique layer to the danger.

As a big fan of the original Jurassic Park, I was really pleased to see this new installment capture some of that classic Spielbergian wonder and Amblin charm that’s been missing from recent films – Rebirth hinted at it, but this really leans into it, and with Abrams producing, that makes total sense. What I really liked is how it balances the genuine danger of the dinosaurs with a good dose of mystery, and even manages to throw in some humor. There are moments, like the opening scene with the dog, that genuinely feel like they’ve been lifted straight from an 80s Spielberg movie, and honestly, I think that was the whole point!

It’s surprising we haven’t seen more major dinosaur films beyond the Jurassic Park series. While some, like the movie ’65’ with Adam Driver, haven’t succeeded, there’s a lot of untapped potential for original dinosaur stories, especially ones that don’t involve cloning or lost islands. This new film looks like it could be a really fun, exciting, and unique dinosaur adventure – potentially even better than recent Jurassic Park and World installments.

The End of Oak Street stomps into theaters on August 14th, 2026.
