007 First Light PS5 Cost a Fortune to Make, But It Was Worth It

Playing 007 First Light really shows how much money went into it, so it’s not shocking to hear the game reportedly cost around $200 million to develop.

According to Danish news sources, the new release is the most costly entertainment production ever to come out of the country, with a reported budget of 1.3 billion kroner.

The game has been in development for around seven years, but it’s unknown how much of the total cost covers licensing the 007 name from Amazon. It’s also not clear if the budget includes marketing expenses.

The book is off to a fantastic start, selling 1.5 million copies in just one day! People are really loving it, and the positive buzz is spreading quickly – everyone I’ve talked to has been enjoying it a lot.

I’m already really enjoying this game – it’s easily one of my favorites so far this year. I’d love to have a little more freedom in the open-world sections, but the stealth gameplay is fantastic, and I’m genuinely impressed with how well the story is written and how smoothly it unfolds.

This script feels like it could be a James Bond film, and that’s high praise.

It will likely take some time for IOI to make a profit on this project, depending on their expenses. Considering costs like platform fees, they’ll probably need to sell around four to five million copies just to cover those costs.

Honestly, I’m pretty confident this game is going to be a hit. I think people will keep discovering it for a long time, spreading the word, and the developer has already said they’re planning to keep updating it, which is awesome. I can see myself playing this one for a while!

This really highlights how much of a gamble it is to fund a big-budget game today, and it explains why publishers are often hesitant to take chances and why we’re seeing so many games get cancelled.

Thankfully, I think IOI did a fantastic job with this game, and it’s likely future James Bond games will be less expensive and simpler to develop, building on the lessons they’ve learned recently.
