Yoshihiro Togashi’s is back in a major way with a new manga release.
Shueisha, the publisher of Shonen Jump, has announced that Hunter x Hunter Volume 39 will be released in Japan on . This is the first new volume of the series in almost two years, and is titled “Negotiation”.
Following Togashi’s recent announcement on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s finished working on the series, fans can expect the long-awaited continuation of one of the most popular manga titles after a significant break.
Hunter x Hunter Is Finally Back With Volume 39 This July
The 39th volume of Hunter x Hunter is coming out in Japan this summer. Viz Media, the publisher of the English version, hasn’t announced a release date for English readers yet.
As a huge Hunter x Hunter fan, I was thrilled to hear some news after over a year of waiting! The last chapter came out way back on December 9, 2024, and it’s been tough! What makes it even more interesting is that Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator, has actually finished several chapters already. He’s known for keeping fans on the edge of their seats, but it’s always worth the wait for more of this amazing series!
I’m so excited! Togashi just confirmed that Chapter 430 of Hunter x Hunter is done! He says there are about 20 finished chapters waiting to be released. He’s asked us to keep an eye out for an official announcement from the Jump editors about when they’ll start publishing chapters 420 and beyond. Fingers crossed it won’t be too long!
I’ve been thinking about how this series might be released going forward. It seems like they could move away from releasing chapters one by one each week and instead offer multiple chapters at a time, or even entire volumes. This would make more sense, especially given the author’s ongoing health issues with their back.
Currently, Togashi can only draw while lying down, which shows just how determined he is to continue creating manga despite his health challenges. He’s also shared that his wife is a huge source of encouragement, giving him the motivation to keep going.
The Hunter x Hunter manga is well into its Succession Contest Arc, with almost 100 chapters completed. This arc is the most intricate storyline the series has presented so far. The story mainly follows Kurapika as he works as a bodyguard for the youngest prince of the Kakin Empire, all while aboard a huge ship called the Black Whale.
The Black Whale is headed to a location where an expedition financed by Netero’s son, Beyond, will be held.
The Succession Contest Arc has a lot going on, which is probably why it’s been so long. But it’s exciting for fans of Hunter x Hunter because the story is finally moving forward with significant developments.
You can read the newest chapters of the Hunter x Hunter manga in English on Viz Media, Manga Plus, and the Shonen Jump app.
