If You Love Classic Doctor Who, This Could Be the Best Auction There’s Ever Been

Those who enjoyed Jon Pertwee’s time as the Doctor will be excited to hear about a fantastic upcoming auction. When Pertwee became the Doctor in 1970, he brought a fresh take to the role. Unlike previous Doctors who freely traveled through time and space, this Doctor was stuck on Earth, collaborating with the organization UNIT. Pertwee’s Doctor was also more action-oriented – he was proficient in Venusian Aikido – and the show adopted a bit of a James Bond-style spy vibe. He even had his own car, Bessie, a cheerful yellow roadster with a unique Doctor Who twist.

As a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, I was genuinely excited to hear about the upcoming auction of Dale Brotherton’s incredible collection. Sadly, Dale passed away earlier this year at the young age of 54, but his decades of collecting are now going under the hammer at Anderson House in Westerhope, Newcastle, starting June 10th at 10am. The highlight? A full-size replica of Bessie, the Doctor’s iconic road vehicle, complete with the registration “WHO 244”! Auctioneer Hamish Trower described it perfectly – it’s a collection that just keeps revealing more treasures the deeper you dive in. For any Doctor Who enthusiast, this is an absolute must-see – and potentially, a chance to own a piece of television history.

How Much Will It Cost to Buy Bessie, & What Else Is Up For Sale?

The Siva Edwardian Tourer kit car is now officially registered, meaning it’s road legal – and sure to turn heads! It’s expected to sell for between £4,000 and £6,000 (about $5,300 to $8,000) and comes with letters and photos signed by actor Jon Pertwee, as well as signed photos of Colin Baker, who played the Sixth Doctor. The package also includes other exciting collectibles.

  • A full-size licensed Dalek model based on the design seen in the Seventh Doctor story “Remembrance of the Daleks,” complete with a certificate of authenticity and signed paperwork
  • A rare 1965 Dalek Gun, hailing from the Dalekmania era that’s inspired so many Doctor Who Dalek collectibles
  • A set of seven Doctor Who character jugs (featuring William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy, complete with certificate of authenticity

In a conversation with Cultured Northeast, Trower shared that the collection was carefully assembled over many years by a passionate Doctor Who fan. He described it as charming, full of fond memories, and genuinely enjoyable, and expressed excitement about offering it at auction, anticipating it will be appreciated by a new group of fans.
