Apple TV’s New 8-Part Sci-Fi Series Is Officially A Global Streaming Sensation

Apple TV‘s new sci-fi series shoots for the stars.

Apple TV+ has quickly become known for its strong science fiction series, with shows like Silo, Severance, and Foundation offering viewers captivating and imaginative worlds. However, two shows stand out from the rest: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and For All Mankind. These aren’t just great shows on their own; they’re the foundation for interconnected universes within Apple TV+. Monarch is already planning a spinoff centered around Wyatt Russell’s character, Lee Shaw, but For All Mankind has already become a massive global hit.

Apple TV+’s new sci-fi series, Star City, a spin-off of For All Mankind, is quickly becoming a hit. According to FlixPatrol, it’s currently the second most-watched show on the platform worldwide. The series premiered with two episodes on May 29th and immediately climbed into the global top 4. It has since surpassed other popular shows like Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and even the original For All Mankind, now ranking second behind Your Friends & Neighbors.

Apple TV’s Star City is gaining popularity around the world, currently trending in 98 countries. While it’s not the #1 show in any of those countries, it’s a top-two hit in 18, including Estonia, Japan, and Ukraine. In the United States, Star City is the 4th most-watched show on Apple TV, following For All Mankind at #3, Widow’s Bay at #2, and Your Friends & Neighbors at the top – mirroring the show’s global performance.

The series For All Mankind presents a fascinating ‘what if’ scenario: what if the Soviet Union had won the space race and landed on the Moon before the United States? Over five seasons (with a sixth and final season coming soon), the show depicts the decades that followed, detailing a never-ending competition in space. The companion series, Star City, delves into the secrets of the Soviet success, taking a more suspenseful, spy-thriller approach. This heightened atmosphere of paranoia has proven popular with both critics and audiences.

Apple TV+’s new sci-fi series, Star City, got off to a good start, possibly helped by debuting on the same day as the finale of For All Mankind. But the show is proving popular on its own merits, earning a high 95% score from critics and a 73% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. In a review for ScreenRant, critic Ben Gibbons gave Star City a perfect 10/10, highlighting how it successfully combines the best parts of Apple TV+’s sci-fi and spy thrillers. It’s currently unknown whether Star City will be renewed for a second season.
