Sabrina Carpenter is asking the court for a restraining order after a man allegedly tried to break into her home. He was arrested, but reportedly returned to her property on two separate days following his release.
Court documents obtained by The Times show the troubling situation started a little over a week ago, but the alleged stalker had been seen around the singerās home as early as April.
On May 23rd, 31-year-old William Applegate was arrested by security and police after trespassing onto a neighborās property and attempting to break through the singer Carpenterās security fence. According to court documents, Carpenter described Applegateās actions as intentional, calculated, and frightening. He allegedly approached Carpenterās house and tried to force his way inside, physically grabbing and pushing down on the front door handle without any permission.
According to Carpenter, Applegate tried to get in, and when he couldn’t, he both knocked and rang the doorbell. The singer’s Ring camera recorded what happened next, when her security team asked him to leave. Applegate claimed he knew the singer and was expected, but he wouldn’t leave until the police came.
Entertainment & Arts
Dylan Sprouse and Barbara Palvin were startled Friday morning when someone reportedly broke into their home in the Hollywood Hills. Sprouse intervened until police could get there.
Carpenter reported that the man was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department, but released and returned to her house within a day, and then again the next day. Each time, he reportedly watched her home while sitting in his car.
Following the unsettling incident, Carpenterās security team reviewed footage and found that Applegate had been near the property for over a month. According to court documents, he initially stayed farther away, which is why he wasnāt confronted earlier. However, his behavior steadily became more concerning, with him gradually getting closer to Carpenterās home, eventually leading to the forceful and aggressive trespassing on May 23, 2026.
Carpenter also stated that Applegate’s actions made her genuinely fear for her safety. She described the attempt to enter her home as a deeply upsetting and invasive experience, one of the most frightening violations of her personal space sheās ever known.
Carpenter asked the court to include her sister, Sarah, and Sarahās boyfriend, George Smith (a guitarist), in the protection order because they both live with her in Los Angeles.
Music
Lindsey Buckingham, who used to play guitar and sing for Fleetwood Mac, was recently attacked in Santa Monica. A woman threw something at him, but it’s not yet known what it was.
LAPD Detective Peter Doomanis confirmed Carpenter’s accusations against Applegate, stating that he represents a growing and serious danger to the singer and has become obsessively fixated on her.
Applegate faces a misdemeanor trespassing charge and is due in court on June 18th.
