Pragmata Director Regrets Announcing it Too Early

The game Pragmata launched in April 2026, almost six years after its initial announcement trailer. In a recent GamesRadar interview, director Yonghee Cho admitted he wished they hadn’t revealed the puzzle-shooter so far in advance.

Many of the disappointments stem from the game’s repeated delays; it was first planned for release in 2022. The strong initial excitement after the announcement trailer actually made the delays feel worse.

After the trailer gained popularity, the development team felt increasing pressure from fans. They realized simply creating a quality game wasn’t going to be sufficient to meet expectations.

Cho explained that the initial response to their game’s announcement trailer was surprisingly strong. While the development team originally aimed to create a fun and enjoyable game, the enthusiastic player reaction made them realize they needed to go above and beyond their original vision and deliver something truly exceptional.

Looking back, I don’t think we made a mistake showing off Pragmata back in 2020. Honestly, seeing all the hype from you guys – the players – really kept the whole team going. Even though the game got pushed back from its original release, knowing people were still excited about it was a huge morale boost for everyone working on it.

He shared that it was great to see players remained enthusiastic about the game even long after it was first announced, which really motivated the development team. He also pointed out that the positive reaction to the initial trailers was a key factor in getting Pragmata finished.

If we hadn’t released the trailer at that specific time, the current version of Pragmata wouldn’t exist as it is today.

Cho has said he’d like to create a follow-up to the game Pragmata someday. However, he clarified that the final decision about whether to make a sequel isn’t up to him.

He expressed enthusiasm for a sequel, saying he’d be happy to see one made. However, he clarified that the decision isn’t up to him alone, so he couldn’t offer any further details. He emphasized that this was simply his personal view.

Producer Naoto Oyama shared a similar view, adding that he and director Cho aren’t certain if Capcom plans to make a sequel to Pragmata right now. Instead of focusing on a potential sequel, Oyama explained that his priority has been getting the game into the hands of as many players as possible.

I’m really not sure what’s next. As you pointed out, Pragmata has only been out for a month, so right now I’m just concentrating on getting as many people to play it as possible. My main focus is Pragmata itself.”
