Scarlet Nexus has just topped 2 million sales, almost five whole years after its release in 2021.
The book initially sold one million copies within its first year, and it has since doubled that number.
Many of those sales were likely due to discounts. Looking at PlayStation Store data, the game has been heavily discounted several times, even going as low as $19.99 or £14.99.
The game also missed out on potential future sales because it wasn’t released on any other platforms. While it launched on PC through Steam, it never made its way to Nintendo Switch or any other consoles.
You know, I’ve been thinking about Scarlet Nexus lately. It had a lot of potential – a fresh new world and some really neat concepts – but it just didn’t quite catch on, you know? It never really clicked with a lot of players, and that’s a shame because it had some cool stuff going for it.
People generally liked the product, but I think the marketing could have been stronger.
Bandai Namco, particularly in Western markets, deliberately toned down the game’s anime-inspired look and feel – a clear example being the noticeably less appealing box art.
Scarlet Nexus is back in the spotlight, which usually means fans are asking about a possible sequel. And sure enough, those dedicated players are once again hoping to hear news about a continuation of the game.
To be honest, a sequel could really work well. The game has some interesting concepts, and the idea of blending a dark, post-apocalyptic setting with psychic warriors battling terrifying monsters is pretty unique.
Scarlet Nexus becomes repetitive in both its gameplay and story before the end, and a sequel could help address these issues by adding more complexity and detail.
Whether we’ll see a sequel is an open question. It didn’t sell exceptionally well, and from what I understand, it was a costly title to make. However, it feels like the kind of unique idea Bandai Namco might consider bringing back in the future.
Given that a sequel to Code Vein is possible, Scarlet Nexus also seems worthy of a follow-up, even though Code Vein sold around 4 million copies.
