The Fortune was mainly filmed in Hartlepool, an industrial port town in County Durham.

Callum Woodhouse, who plays Anthony in the series, was thrilled to film in his hometown. He shared with 5 that he was the only cast member with that luxury.

The production team contacted me about finding places to stay, like hotels or Airbnbs, but I asked if I could stay with my parents instead. Their place was closer to the filming location than anything they were suggesting, and I ended up staying with them for the entire shoot.

We filmed in locations I knew well, even places I’d visited for Sunday lunch. The cast started relying on me for weekend activity suggestions. Every Monday, they’d tell me how much fun they’d had, and I’d finally relax after worrying about them enjoying themselves all weekend.

The show is filmed in and around Hartlepool, and the harbor is a standout location, especially for actor Tomlinson.

She shared that one of her favorite filming locations was a charming fishing harbor used for the scenes depicting a ‘happy place.’ She described it as a wonderfully relaxed set – it felt like they didn’t even need costumes! Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming, making it a truly special place to work. The location was so versatile, it could have stood in for anywhere in the world, and its unique, slightly strange beauty perfectly captured the eerie atmosphere of the series.

Filming in Hartlepool was a wonderful experience. The crew was incredibly talented and welcoming, and I really enjoyed the eight weeks I spent there. I believe the Northeast region deserves more funding to support its creative people.

Stephen Tompkinson, who plays Boots, appreciated being able to film close to home. “It’s rare I get to stay home while filming, so being able to work on the show and sleep in my own bed each night was a real bonus,” he explained.

The actor noted that the North East is a popular filming location, thanks in part to the highly skilled and motivated graduates coming from The Northern School of Art. He said filmmakers are eager to shoot in the area, making each project and setting feel special.
