It’s that time of year again – the season of gaming excitement! Big publishers are gearing up to show off their latest games, both to entertain us and to reveal what’s coming soon.
After the recent State of Play presentation, the next few weeks are packed with gaming events! It all kicks off on June 5th with the Summer Game Fest, followed by the Future Games Show on June 6th. Then, on June 7th, we have both the Xbox Games Showcase and the PC Gaming Show. A new Nintendo Direct might also happen to reveal upcoming games, but here’s a look at some of the biggest announcements we expect – and it all starts with the return of a popular game series…
Gears of War: E-Day Release Date
Regardless of how you feel about Xbox, they understand the strong demand for another Gears of War game. That’s why their upcoming Direct presentation will showcase the first gameplay footage and details for E-Day. With a potential release in the second half of 2026, fans are eager for The Coalition to announce a firm release date, and recent sponsorships suggest September as a possibility. It’s been a long wait for a new installment in the beloved cover-based shooter series, and we’re excited to jump back into the action.
Fable’s “Major New Look”
This is particularly intriguing, considering Xbox has already announced a delay until February 2027. What could this “major new look” reveal? Maybe we’ll see a demonstration of a quest, the reappearance of a fan-favorite character, or a glimpse at the increasingly funny consequences of player choices. It could simply be another famous British actor joining the cast, but we’d be happy with that as long as the gameplay looks good.
Halo: Campaign Evolved Release Date
Halo Studios hasn’t shared much information about the upcoming remake, which is unusual. They recently confirmed the game won’t have an in-game store, but that’s been the only update. We haven’t seen any new gameplay footage since it was first revealed at the last Halo World Championship, and reports suggest it’s launching next month. It remains to be seen if marketing will ramp up after the showcase, but it seems like fans won’t have to wait much longer to try it out for themselves.
Phantom Blade Zero Gets New Trailer

With a September launch date approaching and development nearing completion, the developer of Phantom Blade Zero has a limited window for marketing. Summer Game Fest seems like the perfect opportunity. The challenge, as always, is to generate excitement without revealing too much. Another option would be to finally release the demo that’s been promised for a while – and next week at Summer Game Fest would be a great time to do it.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer 3
According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, the full marketing campaign won’t start until summer, though we should expect some news in just a few weeks. This doesn’t rule out a new trailer, and Rockstar could still begin taking pre-orders. They might release a short teaser to build excitement for a larger reveal soon, but they don’t necessarily need to do so at upcoming gaming events – though it would be welcome! Regardless, expect to learn more about the game this month, possibly when you least expect it.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date
We’ve seen plenty of gameplay and know the story well, so I’m getting really anxious if we don’t get a release date for the revived Onimusha soon. The developers could always delay the announcement with a promise of more details in a future online event, but I’m hoping they’ll just cut to the chase and announce a date along with pre-order information, like they did with Pragmata at last year’s The Game Awards.
Monster Hunter Wilds Expansion Reveal
It’s common for games to show a first trailer and then share more details later, and that’s what’s happening with the expansion to Monster Hunter Wilds. We’ll likely learn more this summer, possibly at one of Geoff Keighley’s events, as that’s where the series usually makes big announcements. A full Monster Hunter presentation with more details could happen next month or in September, just before summer ends.
OD Update

It’s been a year since Hideo Kojima showcased Death Stranding 2 at Summer Game Fest. Considering his close relationship with Geoff Keighley and the lack of news about his next game, OD, since September 2025, a new trailer wouldn’t be unexpected. In fact, since Xbox is publishing OD, we might even see it at the upcoming Xbox Showcase. The big question now is whether Kojima will appear at both events – it’s possible, though attending both might be a lot.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Release Date Reveal (or Delay)
It’s surprising how many games will likely be released between June and October just to avoid going head-to-head with Grand Theft Auto 6 – and that’s already a strong way to put it. I doubt Amazon Game Studios would want to risk launching around the same time, even though they’ve said their game is coming in 2026. The talk of a potential delay to 2027 only makes that more likely. We’ll probably see something from them, but it’s currently unclear whether their game will launch this year or next.
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica Remake Announcement
Talk of a remake has been going around since June 2024, and it was officially announced as Resident Evil Requiem in June 2025 at Summer Game Fest. If the expected launch in early 2027 holds true, Code: Veronica Remake has a strong chance of being a major hit, and fans can likely anticipate the return of Claire Redfield.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads Reveal
Whether it was a slip-up, an accident, or an intentional leak, gameplay footage of the new Virtua Fighter game has surfaced. It’s reportedly titled Virtua Fighter Crossroads, and early impressions are positive. Many are wondering if Sega is holding back a proper announcement for a larger event like Summer Game Fest, especially considering the initial reveal at The Game Awards 2024. It seems unlikely there are many other suitable events where they could make the announcement.
Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition Announcement

There’s a growing chance we’ll see Sonic Frontiers on the new Nintendo Switch 2, potentially announced at an upcoming Nintendo Direct. While earlier reports hinted at a revamped story, it now seems Sega is planning a more straightforward port of the game, including all previous updates, but optimized to run better than it did on the original Switch. If the rumors are true, we can likely expect an official announcement and release date very soon.
Metro 2039 Gets More Gameplay
Following its unexpected announcement and initial preview, Metro 2039 is likely to be featured at the Xbox Games Showcase. The game won’t just be a quick appearance; it’s expected to show off the frightening experiences players can anticipate. While I doubt we’ll get a firm release date – 4A Games is still deciding between a Winter 2026 or 2027 launch – anything is possible at an Xbox event.
State of Decay 3 Gameplay and Updates
State of Decay 3 is showing signs of life after a long silence, with Undead Labs currently testing the game. Instead of announcing a firm release date like 2027, it’s likely they’ll share new gameplay footage, updates from the recent tests, and promise more opportunities for players to try it out in the future. They seem to be taking a cautious approach before fully committing to a release timeline.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Release Date
With a launch planned for this summer, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is already showing how it improves on the first game, making it a likely contender for a spotlight at Summer Game Fest. We’re expecting a confirmed release date, but it feels like there’s room for one more exciting reveal – perhaps a new, powerful enemy to challenge the Queen. It’s difficult to predict, but an announcement could come as early as next month.
Valor Mortis Release Date

Okay, so a Souls-like game, first-person, set in a weird alternate 19th-century Europe where Napoleon’s army came back as zombies? And it’s made by the people who did Ghostrunner 2? Seriously, take my money! I’m really hoping we get a release date soon – they’ve said it’s coming this fall, and I’m guessing maybe October instead of November. But honestly, what I really want is a demo or open beta. They’ve been doing a lot of closed testing, so letting us try it out would be awesome!
Ananta Trailer and Launch Window
Geoff Keighley’s gaming events often feature titles like ZZZ, Honkai: Star Rail, and Wuthering Waves, with Arknights Endfield being a recent addition. Ananta stands out because it’s choosing to focus on the world itself rather than individual characters, while still offering an open-world fantasy experience. While it might not be released this year, with many similar games, especially NTE, already out, we can likely expect a new trailer soon.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve Release Date
It seems Bandai Namco’s upcoming Ace Combat game recently received a rating, and experts believe this, along with a May 30th pre-release date for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, hints at an imminent announcement. Considering how impressive Wings of Theve has looked – particularly the engaging cutscenes and exciting combat – fans are eager for the game to be released as soon as possible.
The Duskbloods Release Month
FromSoftware consistently generates a lot of excitement for its games, even with its recent emphasis on multiplayer. Hopefully, this will be true for The Duskbloods as well. Rumors suggest it might be released later this year, possibly showcased at the rumored Nintendo Direct in mid-June. We might even see a surprise release of Elden Ring Tarnished Edition before then.
New 3D Mario Announcement
Nintendo often reveals major games well in advance, and they’re also comfortable delaying finished titles until the optimal release timing. Considering reliable insider NateTheHate suggests a new 3D Mario game is planned for 2027, a potential Direct presentation in mid-June would be a fitting place to announce it, particularly given the positive reception to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Pokémon Wind and Waves Release Window

A likely announcement at the upcoming Direct is the release date for Pokémon Wind and Waves, especially since it’s already appeared on Amazon Germany. If past releases like Pokémon Legends: Arceus are anything to go by, we could see a release in January or February 2027. This seems like a pretty safe prediction, unless Nintendo decides to hold onto the information for a dedicated Pokémon presentation in July.
Hollow Knight: Silksong — Sea of Sorrow Gameplay
Geoff Keighley often hints at upcoming games, and he’s done so a lot with Silksong, which is hugely anticipated. Will we see a similar reveal at this year’s show for Sea of Sorrow, its free downloadable content? It’s unlikely, but Xbox has promoted Silksong several times before and would likely be eager to showcase it – possibly even with a release date – during their presentation.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Update
It’s not uncommon for game release dates to shift, and the latest example is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. The game, created by Amy Hennig, the mind behind Uncharted, has been delayed past early 2026. While that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s coming in 2027, the lack of gameplay footage makes that a possibility. Another trailer confirming a 2026 skip wouldn’t be shocking. Ultimately, fans will want to see more of the game eventually.
Star Wars Zero Company Release Date/Delay
Combining the worlds of Star Wars and XCOM seems fantastic, and early looks suggest a really strong tactical strategy game. However, we haven’t heard much about it lately, even on May the 4th. If it’s still on track for a 2026 release, we might see a new trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase or Summer Games Fest. Alternatively, EA might surprise us and reveal more information unexpectedly.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Title Reveal
The announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth came during a livestream celebrating the original game’s 25th anniversary in June 2022. While it was close to the typical Summer of Gaming season, more details didn’t appear until 2023 with a gameplay reveal at Summer Game Fest and another trailer at The Game Awards. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has stated the team has played through the game over 40 times and plans to share more updates about the project than ever before this year. Because of this, it seems very probable that we’ll learn about Part 3 – either its name or a release timeframe – soon.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Release Date
It seems like every game shown at last year’s Summer Game Fest still has a release date far off – in this case, 2026. Asobo Studio shared a detailed update last April, saying they’re finishing up the final touches on the prequel, including music and gameplay refinements. While it’s been four years since their last game, A Plague Tale: Requiem, the developers are aiming for a truly memorable, yet difficult, experience with Resonance. In fact, we might even see the game announced next week, only to learn it’s been pushed back to next year – a delay that could ultimately benefit its quality.
Palworld 1.0 Release Date
Considering all the recent gaming news, I’m reminded of Palworld, which officially launched its full version this year. Pocketpair had promised a proper announcement, not just a Discord post, and they’ve often used major events for reveals. Summer Game Fest seemed like the perfect place to showcase the new content and announce a release date, with more details expected in the coming months. Given the hype around GTA 6, there’s a sense of urgency, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Pocketpair targets a January 2027 release.
Nivalis Release Window
ION LANDS, the developer of the upcoming cyberpunk restaurant simulator, recently shared an update detailing progress on level design, graphics, and the complex task of simulating a large number of characters. The update highlighted a move towards final polishing – including bug fixes, translation into different languages, and performance improvements. While a surprise release doesn’t seem likely, the team is aiming to announce a release date soon, and a launch within the next week is looking increasingly probable.
Light No Fire Appearance

With so many game studios worried about release dates in November, Hello Games is in a comfortable position. No Man’s Sky is still thriving and consistently getting excellent free updates. This means even a small, vague teaser for Light No Fire at Summer Game Fest could generate excitement. Even if the game doesn’t get featured, development can continue at its own pace until they’re ready to share more. Ultimately, Sean Murray and his team are in control of the project’s future.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Release Date
Mojang is adding even more to its game lineup with Minecraft Dungeons 2, planned for release in 2026. While not a massive title, the first Minecraft Dungeons game attracted 25 million players, and the sequel promises fresh environments and a new challenge. Expect to see it at the Xbox Games Showcase, where they’ll likely reveal the new areas – details of which surfaced online over a year ago.
