In the upcoming sequel to “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender”, we’ll delve deeper into the adult lives of Aang and his companions, a phase that was merely suggested in “The Legend of Korra”. Unfortunately, the original voice cast won’t be reprising their roles for the new movie. In an interview with IGN, creators Michael DiMartico and Bryan Konietzko confirmed that Steven Yeun will breathe life into Zuko in this new production. However, they were hesitant to share details about how the iconic fire-nation character will be portrayed in the revised version.
Steven Yeun Joins The Legend of Aang as Zuko
Earlier this Spring, it was revealed that Steven Yeun would be part of the voice cast for “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender”. However, only recently, during an interview with IGN, it became clear that he will be voicing the character Zuko. Previously, Yeun had portrayed Avatar Wan in the franchise, but it’s unclear if Wan might reappear now that Yeun is part of the cast. In response to this, Konietzko said, “Steven Yeun was Avatar Wan. He played the first Avatar in ‘The Legend of Korra’. We enjoyed working with him and are thrilled to have him back in our universe.
Yeun joins the main cast in a role yet undisclosed, while Eric Nam was earlier announced as the voice for adult Aang. Newcomers Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza have been added, but their characters are still not disclosed. It’s confirmed that Bautista will voice the villain in this upcoming movie, but specific details about his character are still under wraps.
When Does Avatar: The Last Airbender’s New Movie Come Out?
In October next year, “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender,” jointly produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, is set to hit theaters. This date is a shift from its original release schedule in 2025, which was later moved to January 2026, and then again to its current Fall 2026 release. The creators of the original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are overseeing the production of this film as part of Avatar Studios, which is also working on a new sequel TV series.
During the San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel for the franchise last weekend, creators hinted that the visual style of the upcoming movie will surpass fan expectations from the original series.
