Inside Jenny Mollen’s Post-Breakup Drama Involving 12-Year-Old Son Sid

Jenny Mollen is well aware she’s not like a regular mom. But she likes herself just the way she is.

She isn’t bothered by any criticism she receives for posting a photo with her son.

The actress, who recently separated from Jason Biggs after 18 years of marriage, adjusted the caption on an Instagram post with her 12-year-old son, Sid. She likely realized a joke about dating her eldest son wasn’t well-received.

While some people agreed that a mother’s relationship with her child is different from a romantic partnership, others didn’t see anything wrong with the photo. Mollen herself was surprised by the negative reactions to how close she and her son appeared.

The actress from Crazy, Stupid, Love explained on Instagram that since she’s going through a separation and is no longer married, she feels she’s receiving more negative attention online. She was shocked and upset that a photo of her hugging her 12-year-old child was being criticized, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Though the snap did garner some double-taps as well.

Mollen’s sister-in-law addressed the situation on Instagram, explaining that this kind of affectionate behavior is completely normal for children. She added that if a parent isn’t seeing it, she feels for them, and pointed out that these displays of affection don’t last forever, referencing her own nephew’s changing behavior.

Mollen, who is also a mother to 8-year-old Lazlo with Jason Biggs, jokingly explained she was making the most of having time with her kids after being away for three days. She quipped, “Why wouldn’t I milk it?” TopMob News contacted Mollen’s representative for a statement, but hasn’t received a response.

Because there’s no shame in Mollen’s boy mom game.

Before the recent scandal, the 47-year-old openly embraced being seen as someone who relies heavily on their mother. The internet, predictably, had a lot to say about it.

In a recent post on her Substack, The Best Friend Experience with Jenny Mollen, Jenny Mollen jokingly confessed she hopes her sons will marry women whose mothers have passed away. She explained this is her way of ensuring she remains important in their wives’ lives – feeling needed and like a positive comparison to their mothers.

As the actress explained, having sons is an incredibly confusing and emotionally challenging experience. It’s a rollercoaster – you feel lifted up, then completely broken down.

Mollen described how, when her sons were young, they were constantly underfoot – she couldn’t even use the bathroom without them! She jokingly compared their constant need for attention to dating very demanding men.

Now that her children are more independent, she’s come to terms with the fact that she will eventually lose them as they grow up and move on with their lives.

And she understands implicitly what she is up against.

Before marrying Jason Biggs in 2008, Molly Sims admitted she was a bit of a dating disaster. She unintentionally hurt people, broke their hearts, wrote about it all, and then acted surprised when they didn’t want to stay friends.

When Mollen saw Sid texting a friend the phrase “my brand of toxic,” she started to worry.

According to Mollen, she was being very controlling and using complicated language, leaving him completely confused. She told Jason she wanted to step in before he got hurt and even admitted she didn’t find the other woman particularly attractive. However, Jason believed he needed to learn from his own experiences. While she understands his point logically, as a mother, she naturally wants to protect her child and defend him fiercely, as she’s dedicated her life to raising him.

Instead, she’s trying to accept her role on the sidelines.

Motherhood comes with a lot of grief, even before anything sad actually happens, according to Mollen. This can affect any mother, even those who seem perfectly happy. But she points out that the pain felt by mothers of sons is especially difficult because it starts with intense love and admiration. Sons begin by completely idolizing their mothers, needing and adoring them, making mothers feel truly special – and that eventual shift makes the feeling of letting go particularly heartbreaking.

And at the moment, she continues to wow them.

My kids still seek comfort in my clothes and bedding, and they still rely on me for simple tasks like opening milk and tending to imaginary hurts. I’m deeply involved in their lives, yet I feel strangely distant, realizing I’m experiencing a long, drawn-out farewell to their childhood.

Thankfully, she still has her cherished memories. Here’s a look back at some of her happiest times with Biggs and their sons.

Jason Biggs realized Jenny Mollen was the person he wanted to marry after they acted together in the 2007 film My Best Friend’s Girl. They dated for only six months before Jason proposed, and they were married in April 2008.

In May 2018, Jason celebrated his wife Jenny’s birthday with a heartfelt social media post. He affectionately called her his “baby momma” and “the love of my life,” playfully acknowledging her Gemini personality. Jason detailed going all out for her – flowers, a card, dinner, a gift, and even gluten-free cupcakes – but jokingly declared his efforts incomplete until he publicly shared his birthday wishes. He’d also flown in Jenny’s best friend as a surprise!

Jenny amusingly revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show in May 2021 that she playfully calls Jason “Jadon” on Instagram. It started when her phone’s autocorrect changed his name, and she began using the nickname. She jokingly explained that, since she’s often known as “Jason Biggs’ wife,” she liked the idea of playfully putting him in his place. She considers it her way of jokingly claiming him as her husband on social media.

Oh my gosh, they have two amazing boys, Sid, who’s so sweet and was born in 2014, and then little Lazlo, born in 2017! But honestly, I’m still holding out hope for a third! Jason actually said back in 2018 to People magazine that as soon as he has a daughter, he’s retiring! Can you imagine?! I’m seriously keeping everything crossed for baby number three – a little girl would be perfect!

Most expectant parents don’t experience situations like those depicted in the 2016 comedy Amateur Night. However, Jenny actually played Jason’s on-screen pregnant wife in that funny movie, just a year before she gave birth to their second child, Lazlo.

Jenny and Jason introduced their baby, Lazlo, to Eugene Levy – who famously played Jason’s dad in the American Pie movies. Jason shared a sweet moment on Instagram in January 2018, joking that he couldn’t get Lazlo to laugh until he brought in “the big guns” – Eugene! The photo shows Jenny holding baby Lazlo as the whole family shares a happy laugh.

Jason and Jenny appeared together in a TV series based on Jenny’s life story, titled I Like You Just the Way I Am. The funny show followed a wife (Jenny) trying to manage her life, with her supportive husband (Jason) by her side. Busy Philipps and Sharon Lawrence also starred in the show, which unfortunately only ran for one season.

Think of The Newlywed Game, but much more challenging! In 2018, Jason and Jenny showed just how well they work together as a couple by co-hosting the Lifetime game show My Partner Knows Best. As Jenny jokingly explained on TODAY while promoting the show, “It’s incredibly hard to work together. Like any marriage, we wanted to see how strong our love really was.”

Food blogger Jenny celebrated her husband Jason’s birthday on May 12, 2021, with a sweet Instagram post. She called him her “absolute favorite,” as well as her lifelong partner, mentor, and inspiration, jokingly apologizing for sharing too many photos of him while half-asleep.

Jenny wrote about the time Jason jokingly ‘stalked’ his ex-girlfriend, a story he later included in his books. Jason described it as a humorous moment for both of them. He told Us Weekly that people change over time – they have kids, and even the person he once playfully followed has moved on. He explained that she felt the need to publicly state she’s a different person now.

Even after Jenny co-hosted the Bachelor In Paradise After Show with Chris Harrison in 2015, she and Jason still enjoy watching their favorite reality TV shows together. Jason jokingly revealed in a 2019 People magazine home tour, “I’ll put ESPN on to make it look like I watch sports, but honestly, that’s where we watch The Bachelor and Real Housewives.”

Jason and Jenny, parents of two, know that a successful marriage takes a lot of work and dedication. They appeared on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette in 2019 to offer advice to the contestants on how to properly care for a pregnant partner, emphasizing that childbirth isn’t always easy or glamorous.

In October 2018, Jason celebrated one year of sobriety and shared his journey with addiction on social media. He explained that he first attempted to get sober over five years prior, when his struggles with alcohol and drugs became overwhelming. He admitted recovery wasn’t easy, but he was incredibly proud to have reached a full year of sobriety. Jason encouraged anyone facing similar challenges to seek help and remember they aren’t alone, stating, “We can do this.”

Jenny celebrated her husband’s achievement with a heartfelt message. She wrote, “So proud of you today! Congratulations, my love. I know how hard you work, and I appreciate everything you do. I love you and thank you for your dedication.”

Jenny and her husband Jason are a strong team, and Jenny openly shares the realities of motherhood with her fans. In a 2017 Instagram post, she described how quickly new mothers can struggle with difficult emotions, questioning why they aren’t feeling the joy others expect. She urged anyone feeling down after having a baby to seek help, dismissing the pressure to appear constantly happy and emphasizing that it’s okay to not feel okay.

Jenny and Jason’s passion for one another still runs deep…even if it’s a little NSFW. “When people ask what it was like having actors as parents,” Jenny joked on Instagram with a makeout pic of her and Jason, and their kids only a few feet away.

Jenny also famously revealed in her memoir I Like You Just the Way I Am that she hired a prostitute for Jason’s birthday, but the American Pie star couldn’t perform during the planned threesome. “[The] prostitute wasn’t engaging with my wife the way I hope she would, so it all kind of fell apart, and the rest is in the book,” Jason said on The View in 2014, as reported by Page Six.

Jason and Jenny, who used to co-host a radio show on SiriusXM, are putting their own advice into practice – they’re seeing a marriage counselor! Jenny told People magazine in December 2020 that therapy has been key to their ability to work together. She explained, “You can’t work with someone and not have a therapist!”

Or, as Jason put it, “You’ve got to do it as a preemptive strike.”

Jenny and Jason, who have been married for over ten years, have maintained a strong connection, and Jenny jokingly revealed that their intimacy actually increased during the pandemic. She told Us Weekly in August 2020 that this helped them cope with being in quarantine and brought them even closer together. She described it as a positive bonding experience that deepened their relationship.

Jason and Jenny celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary on April 22, 2018. Jason shared his feelings, writing, “Ten years ago today, I made the best decision of my life.” He added with a smile, “We’ve made it a decade, with hopefully five or six more to come. I love you.”

In 2022, Jason accompanied his wife to a book event in New York City, where she spoke with her friend, Busy Philipps, about her book, City of Likes.

The couple attended NYC Second Chance Rescue’s fourth annual gala in 2024 and took a photo with a cute dog.

Jenny was caught leaping into Jason’s arms during an outing in New York in January 2025.

The couple’s last public appearance together was in November 2025 at the 43rd Torino Film Festival in Italy.
