Sydney Sweeney to Star in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Reboot With a Twist

After starring in the popular HBO show Euphoria and the successful novel adaptation The Housemaid, Sydney Sweeney is taking on a new leading role in a reimagining of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer has signed a deal with Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, to publish her first novel, Hollow. She’s also writing and directing a movie based on the book. The film will be produced by LuckyChap and Beer’s own production company, Lab Brew, with Anya Sweeney starring in and producing through her company, Honey Trap. The project is expected to be presented to potential buyers this week and is predicted to generate significant interest from studios.

Hollow Has Already Garnered Heavy Interest

Putnam Publishing swiftly secured the rights to the novel Hollow before it even went up for bidding. The book had already sparked significant interest from publishers after being submitted. It’s being rushed into production, with a planned release in Fall 2027 to coincide with the development of a movie adaptation. While the film’s release date is still unknown, key players signed on quickly.

As a huge fan of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, I’m really excited about this new take called Hollow. It’s going to be told from Katrina Van Tassel’s point of view, and Sweeney is set to play her. Apparently, they’re completely changing her character – she won’t be just the girl the guys are after, but the main character caught up in a really creepy mystery and a complicated, supernatural love triangle. From what I’ve heard, it’s going to be a modern, atmospheric, and psychologically thrilling update to the original story.

Sydney Sweeney Is the New Katrina Van Tassel

Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a classic American story, first published in 1820. It takes place in the small Dutch town of Sleepy Hollow and centers around Ichabod Crane, a schoolteacher who tries to win the heart of Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter of a wealthy farmer. He faces competition from the popular and athletic Brom Bones. The story famously includes a spooky encounter with a headless horseman, and Ichabod eventually disappears, leaving behind only a broken pumpkin.

The classic fairy tale has been retold numerous times. One of the most well-known versions is Tim Burton’s film, starring Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane and Christina Ricci as Katrina Van Tassel. Disney also created an animated adaptation called The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad in 1949, and the segment with the Headless Horseman remains one of the studio’s most frightening animated moments.

A release date has not yet been set for the new Hollow movie.
