Classic Al Pacino movie tipped for Netflix TV remake following end of another popular drama

Netflix is developing a new TV series based on the 1979 Al Pacino film, And Justice for All.

Deadline first reported that the streaming service is searching for a new legal drama to replace The Lincoln Lawyer, as that show will conclude after its fifth season.

I just heard that Sony Pictures Television is making the new series, which is really cool because their sister company, Columbia Pictures, actually released the original movie! It feels like everything is coming full circle, and I’m excited to see how they build on the original.

Jeremy Miller and Dan Cohn (known for ‘That Was Then’) are writing the story, which Deadline describes as a raw and realistic portrayal of an attorney with a good heart whose life falls apart as he battles a dishonest legal system, ultimately leading to a breaking point.

Representatives for Netflix and Sony TV declined comment to Deadline for their piece.

The 1979 movie And Justice for All, directed by Norman Jewison and written by Valerie Curtin and Barry Levinson, tells the story of a lawyer caught in a difficult situation: he must defend a judge while also working to get justice for his other clients.

The film featured a talented cast including Al Pacino, Jack Warden, John Forsythe, Lee Strasberg, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Lahti, Craig T. Nelson, Thomas Waites, and Sam Levene.

The movie is most famous for a line delivered by Al Pacino’s character while in court, right after the judge tells him to stop speaking.

He exclaimed repeatedly that the proceedings were chaotic and unfair, shouting, “You’re out of order! The whole trial is out of order!”

Last month, it was announced that the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer, which premiered in 2022, will conclude with its current season. Showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez confirmed the news together in a statement.

Every story eventually finishes, but we wanted to ensure Mickey Haller’s story ended on our terms. From the start, our goal was to not only share his journey, but also to give it a satisfying and well-deserved conclusion.

Although it’s sad to see this chapter end, it’s also a wonderful chance to wrap up this story and maybe explore what happens next for some of our characters.

As a longtime fan, I was thrilled to hear that The Lincoln Lawyer is getting one last chance to wrap things up properly. Huge thanks to Netflix and A+E Studios for giving the show the send-off it deserves, but honestly, the real heroes are the viewers. We stuck with Mickey Haller, and they’ve listened! They’re promising a final season that will truly deliver a satisfying conclusion for the character, and I, for one, am incredibly excited to see how it all ends. Consider me officially hyped!
